INVITATION!!!

There is a group of us bandsters that have been meeting monthly at Red Robin at I25 and Arapahoe Road and we'd like to invite anyone who is interested, supportive and fun to our get together on Thursday, August 9th at 7 pm. Sometimes we feel isolated and need a little bandster understanding and some time with other people that really "get" us. If you understand what I just said then this get together is for you. We talk, laugh, eat, share, show pictures, just are there for each other.

Let me know if you are coming so I can save you a seat! Our group has three founding members and others that come and go. So join us!

:whoo::whoo::whoo:WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU.

Hi Trish,

Congrats on your hard won 5 lbs. It has been 2 months and 3 days since my banding and I am down 18 lbs. Sometimes when I look around this site and see people that have lost 40+ pounds in the same amount of time I get a little discouraged. Then I have to take a realistic look at myself and ask myself when was the last time I ever lost 18 pounds in two months.

I think you are doing great and I applaud you for "getting back into the game". Hang in there.

BTW - no stuffy nose here. I just have to remind myself to slow down. My portions aren't bad but I have a terrible habit of wolfing down food - stuck city. I do not like the PBing, sliming and all that. Yuck and painful.

Hi Michelle, I think 18 pounds in 2 months are good, I think losing a little slower just might be better. I am happy with my 5 pounds, I want to see 6 pounds though... thats all my goal is, one pound at a time. So far to date from April 2005 I have lost a total 75 pounds. and My 1 year is coming up on the 31st with my new band, and I think it will be a total of 15 pounds... but I am not going to let my self get discouraged because I know my band is there I can feel it. I just need to go that extra mile now, like exsercise... lol oh no thats another story LOL.

Good job with your weight loss though! you might think it is slow but you are still losing and not gaining! woohoo!

Well, I am definitely in. A little scared, but still in. I am in day 6 of the pre-op diet,m which is a low carb. I have lost 10 pounds doing that, but I am just focusing on the fact that I am headed "down the scale" not up. I am counting my journey starting at that pre-op weight.

I am really excited. My husband is a little worried this will "change me too much" or that he won't be "as attracted". I was discouraged by this but decided to press on. I really think our realtionship is stronger than insecurity, so I think it will be fine.

Im just so EXCITED to do all the things I can't do now, with him, with my kids,...just everyday stuff. Onward and DOWNWARD!!!

Char :-)

Hi There~

I am in Brighton, and am wondering if there are any ongoing support groups? I would like to stay closer to home, with 4 kiddos, it is hard to get away some evenings.

Thanks!

Hey girls--it's been so long since I have been on the boards! I've missed everyone! Trish--congrats on the 5 pounds, and don't get discouraged--slow is better anyway! And Michelle--I have been meaning to call you and see how you are doing! 18 pounds is great! I know what you mean about the pb'ing and sliming, though. I have that bad habit of eating too fast sometimes, too. It is not fun to get something stuck is it? I am down a total of 78 pounds and seem to be stuck there. Part of the problem is I have been very stressed lately--my mom was ini the hospital for almost 3 weeks, my son got mono, then an abcess on his tonsil, my daughter cut her leg open--clear to the bone, and had to have 20 stitches, so it's been a little crazy for me. And, i have not been able to get to the gym as much as I would like, but now that things have finally settled down, i am trying to get back to my normal routine. I will call you soon, Michelle, so we can catch up. And Trish--I am thinking about coming to Albuquerque Labor Day Weekend, so if I do, I will contact you so we can hopefully get together. Take Care Girls!

Hello Colorful Colorado Lap Banders!

Connie, Gosh - sounds like you have had the summer from he**! It is hard to believe that summer is almost over already. I would love to have lunch with you one of these days. I think it may have to be after Labor Day but we will figure something out.

My hysterectomy is scheduled for Sept 10. Really not looking forward to that at all. My doc keeps telling me that I don't even realize that I feel bad and that I will feel so much better after the surgery. We'll see. She loves that I got the Lap Band and am losing weight.

I joined Weight Watchers a couple of weeks ago with a friend who needed an accountability partner. I have been counting points and what not but the main attraction is just journaling what I am eating and trying to figure out why I make such horrible food choices. I am still losing weight but I still know that I need to make more life changes especially about my feelings towards food.

The best news of the week however is that I went out and bought a pair of size 20 jeans last night. Yeah! I started out in size 24.

Trish - How goes everything with you? We haven't heard from you in awhile. Are you doing okay?

Well -- hope you all have a great weekend!

Michelle

Hi Colorado -

I am so glad you are doing well Connie. Wow! I have stalled again at 192, it seems that every ten pounds or so I go into a plateau, then drop easily 4 pounds, then holds again. I haven't been perfect in the eating department. The PBing has made me angry and I push food down sometimes in spite of the feedback my tummy is giving me, the result of the disease. Sometimes I feel as if I have lost my best friend. Does anyone else feel this way? I am working hard in therapy to understand and accept this part of the journey. I am tired of being so alone emotionally. And now I am four months out I can see challenges ahead if I don't resolve these feelings.

Michelle in Denver

Hey girls--how's everyone doing? Michelle in Denver--I feel your pain! I do know what you mean about feeling like you have lost your best friend. I have not been so perfect in the eating department either. It just suck sometimes to go out to eat and not be able to order what you are really craving, and ordering a salad or fish or grilled chicken instead. But don't give up--it'll happen.

And Michelle in Pueblo--definately call me for lunch. I'm sorry to hear about the hysterectomy, but if it will make you feel better, then good. Are you still planning on moving? This week would be good if you are available.

Trish--I didn't make it to Alb. this weekend like I wanted to--too much stuff going on here, but I'm still planning on making a trip down soon. I will e-mail you when I do.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

I guess I am not sure waht to expect. I ate lunch and it was totally fine, in fact, I am still hungry. Hmmm,..I might be calling him in a few days fro more saline.

Anyway, I met Joy (JFK) at the docs office and she is so sweet! Good luck to you, Joy. Let me know how you are feeling with your fill. :faint::faint:

The whole fill thing is a conumdrum (sp). It is hard to know whether the band is filled enough until it is, then it might be overfilled.

Recently, I have been having problems drinking without swallowing air, which really makes the hydration process uncomfortable. So I have to really THINK before swallowing even Water.

I will learn.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
