May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

Just got back from my post-op appointment. I've lost 13 pounds since the end of April!

I explained to my doctor about how sore I am where my port is by the end of each day and how I feel like it's "catching" under my ribcage occasionally. He asked me to stick it out until my next appointment (June 22) to allow all the surgical swelling to resolve. He thinks once I'm healed, the port will be lower profile and lower in my torso. He said if not, he'll need to go in and move it. I've got such a short torso that he didn't have a whole lot of options on where to place it. Stupid short torso! ;)

Anyways, I'm gonna go back to work tomorrow, if only for a 1/2 day. Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi again,

Melissa O, Rubylyn, Laura P, & Kadrian Matthews, thanks for the comments and congrats on your surgery. I will be happy once this belly pain and gas goes away. Yes, I have also heard that day 2 & 3 is the worst. Let me ask ya'll a question, did ya'll get an elevated temp during the 1st few days or 1st week? Mine is under 100, but it has me a little bothered. My doc said that he wanted me to take my temp twice a day for the first 14 days, so that makes me wonder if it is normal??? Anyway, if you have any info regarding that, please let me know. I am not dealing with the gas in my shoulders, it is mainly in my lower belly and I am passing it pretty regularly.

Keiko, just remember, I think that most of us question our decisions to do this in the beginning. You are probably making the right decision. I understand the feelings of going from, YES I am doing this, to oh crap, am I sure this is what I want. But, I think in the end, I made the right decision. I honestly think you are going to do great. Just remember, your family is going to benefit from this by having their mommy back. Good luck to you! ;)

Short01, Good luck with your surgery. I also think you are going to do great. Dry mouth was also a problem for me and I think that happens to everyone too. The only reason I mention the dry mouth thing because there was a post about it on here. Don't remember who posted it, but yes, I delt with it. Its crazy! But all in all, I really do wish youa speedy recovery.

Take care everyone and keep us updated on your results.

No. I didn't get a elevated tempature. I stayed normal temp the whole way through

Hi all,

I was banded on Monday, had to stay overnight and just got home a few hours ago. Everything went fine, I was up and around 10 minutes after I got to my room and the gas hasn't been too bad, did a lot of walking the halls.

I'm tired and sore, but really it doesn't seem too bad so far. I can swallow my smaller pills, haven't tried any real big ones.

One thing that is bothering me, maybe someone can help? I got on the scale when I got home, and I have gained like 7 lbs!!!!

had nothing at all but Water in the hospital, not even a flavored water, but they did give me 6 IV bags of "ringers" whatever that is. I've been peeing like crazy so I didn't think that it could be water but what do I know.

Anyway, I wish all the next group well, don't be afraid it isn't that bad - and broth and Protein Shakes at home are heaven!

thanks for being there May-buddies, this is the greatest support thread.

That's just the extra Fluid they pump in your body before and during surgery

Hi all!

I'm to be banded tomorrow and found out that my time was pushed back from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Arggg! I'm making myself a nervous wreck. Last night I couldn't sleep much because I'm so worried if I'm making the right decision. I don't want to stay the way I am - the weight makes me miserable, but I'm so worried about this. I've had 3 babies and 4 operations, and I've never felt scared like this. I think it's because my other surgeries were to correct something that was wrong, and once the surgery was over, I could continue life as I knew it. And while the weight is "wrong" there seeems to be so many things that can go wrong, from complications, to band slippage, to erosion, I wonder if this is the surgery I should have. I didn't want my entire insides rerouted, which is why I didn't choose the RNY. But now I'm worried about what I'll be able to eat for the rest of my life, etc....I know I'm making myself nuts! My husband just came into the room and reminded me that the surgery I'm having tomorrow is very minor compared to some I've had, but then I was alot younger when I had those surgeries. So then I start worrying that maybe I'm too old to have this done...eeek!

Sorry to vent, but I just had to talk to people who would understand what's been running through my mind. Any warm fuzzies would really be nice.

Keiko

Hang in there and good luck!!!

this place has been wonderful- so many people going through the same thing. Thank you all for posting your stories and your progress. It really helps

;)

Okay, I am two days away from surgery. The hunger has really bothered me today. I cried all through dinner with my family. Hubby didn't seem to be moved by it. I guess he knows there will probably be a lot of that in the future. I was second guessing this whole thing. I was thinking "am I ever going to have............again?" How sad that I am that attached to food. I had to come get on the site to take my mind off of it. I never want to see Jello of popsicles after this is all over. I am looking forward to FF pudding post op (never thought I would say that).

Thanks for listening!

I missed you all my May cyber friends while I worked today, LOL! I went back and I wanted to comment on several posts from today. If it is bothering someone that I did this in one LONG post, let me know. I am learning “forum etiquette”

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>

<o:p> </o:p>

Nimblebean- I just saw that you have already lost over 50lbs! Way to go! Is that just from pre-op or are your watching what you eat?<o:p></o:p>

NurseLaureli- How are you today? I didn’t feel funny when I swallowed, but I have tried hard not to gulp. I can’t give up the straw!

PhgMomof3- What is Italian Wedding Soup? Just curious, I have never had that! I went and got Potato soup at hand tonight. However, tonight I don’t feel hungry (for a change) so I am not going to eat it yet, LOL! I walked a mile 6 days post-op. I complained about it, but I really feel like it helped me get going. Give me details on how you knew the cheese was stuck. I need someone to be specific so I will know!

<o:p> </o:p>

Hiccups- Those and coughing are the worst post-op! It almost makes me laugh it is such a funny feeling!!!

<o:p> </o:p>

Mannamay- I am glad to hear you are doing good!! Get a heating pad and get some rest!

<o:p> </o:p>

SillyWillyMommy- Love your creativity for your Mother’s Day meal! I put meatloaf in the blender, LOL! It wasn’t terrible, but I am not going to rush to do it again. Tomorrow is the first day of your SMALLER life!! I had a hard time getting on here tonight!

<o:p> </o:p>

Monica- I just strain my liquids, but you may want to call your doc for clarification!

<o:p> </o:p>

Wenjea- I am fighting what you are, we need to stay off the scales, but it is hard! I am only recording my weight on Fridays. That way it will look better to me! You may have a hard time cleaning out before surgery. My doc recommended a laxative for 3 days after surgery and that helped ( I think, LOL!) They say you can carry 10 lbs in your colon!!

<o:p> </o:p>

Healthny- What is Barley Water?

<o:p> </o:p>

Melissa O- glad to hear you are home and doing well. I too, was relieved when I knew they did not open me up!

<o:p> </o:p>

Rebecca- YEA for you! I completely understand the sneezing, that is not fun!

<o:p> </o:p>

<o:p> </o:p>

Keiko- You can do this! You will be fine and so glad you made this choice for you!!!

<o:p> </o:p>

Widabbut- glad to hear you are doing good. I have not had solids yet, so I really have not experienced the “full” feeling! Glad to hear it will be coming!

<o:p> </o:p>

Welcome Short01- good luck tomorrow!

<o:p> </o:p>

Mommalee- Baggy clothes- How EXCITING!!!

<o:p> </o:p>

Welcome Oilburner!

Soulful Grandma- Stay off of those scales for another week! It will take you that long to get rid of the stuff they pump you full of!

<o:p> </o:p>

<o:p> </o:p>

NVGirl- congrats on the weight loss!!

<o:p> </o:p>

<o:p> </o:p>

Cypressmom2007- Glad to hear you are doing well! I have not worn shorts in a couple of years, so maybe this summer will be ours!

<o:p> </o:p>

Welcome Karamyl!!

<o:p> </o:p>

Twinmommy- You said exactly what I have been feeling at times too! I keep thinking that someday we will be able to eat certain things again, we will just have to modify. The main thing that keeps me going is knowing that this is just a phase in making the rest of my life better, a phase that will end and we can move on to the next phase!!

<o:p> </o:p>

<o:p> </o:p>

Good luck to all that are joining the BANDWAGON tomorrow!!

<o:p> </o:p>

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
