Starting liquid diet again

Recommended Posts

So I had surgery on December 30 and I can eat whatever I want. I only lost 30lbs and I'm between 181-178.. It sucks. So today I started my phase one liquid diet and I have to say I wasn't hungry or craving food :) . Hopefully this will work to put me back to weight loss

I had the sleeve on 1-8-14. It is slow for me too. I stalled for three weeks. I'm down about 35 lbs but it's been so slow. I can eat whatever I want too. Ill be interested to see how you do with liquids. They say I don't eat enough calories but if I do I gain weight. Is that u too.

Can you please share with newbies like me what you were eating? I'm still on stage 1 diet and really am interested on what I can do to avoid this from happening to me because I never want to go back on this Protein diet again!

These kinds of posts scare me. Being pre-op, I wonder if the physical sacrifice of such a huge surgery is worth it when your struggles seem to be the very same and weight loss is minimal.....

I had my surgery on 1/15 and went up and down a couple of pounds for 4 weeks straight. It sucked big time! At the next surgeon's appt, I showed him my food logs and he told me to knock it down to just 3 meals a day, with no more than 4 oz. He also said to focus on Proteins and getting my liquids in, which most of us know by now. I had to cut out my "snacks" of 1oz. of perky Jerky, frutis, etc. He said to also cut out the soft foods like yogurts, cottage cheese, etc. and focus on real foods.

I know that each doctor suggests something different. I've seen some people break a stall by eating 5 smaller meals, some by carb cycling. For me, I have finally started to move back down after sticking to my 3 meals a day. It's what worked for my body. If you can, go back to your surgeon, show your food logs, be honest, and follow the advice of your surgeon and/or dietitian if you can.

I hope going back to phase 1 works for you in jump starting the weight loss. Sounds almost like the 5:2 pouch test I've heard about on here that some veterans go back to to reset themselves. Wishing you all the best.

Not to sound like an asS or anything, but what made you even want to see if your sleeve could tolerate anything? Like, I don't even want to take the chance snacking on foods I shouldn't or can't have. I guess what's the point of going through all this, to go back to eating like before?

ThNk you!!! I was just gonna say that. Who said we were eating junk food? I am just trying to say that I can eat more than 4 ounces. I don't hAve to take sips and I only drink Water, no sugar liquids. Did I try pizza? Yes I have . Can I eat more than 4 ounces? Yes! All I eat is healthy food which doesn't bother my stomach. I know I started with 213 and my doc said I won't lose as fast as others who are heavier and I was stuck at 178-180 for like 3 weeks so I started my liquid diet again to help the weight loss. Ohh and my last doc check up apparently I have this bacteria I forgot what is called but it makes u bloated and slows the weight loss. Next month is my 3 month check up and they will be giving me antibiotics. It's funny how people judge others so fast. Just bc I can't lose 50lbs in one month does not mean I'm eating junk! :) and I understand mamato2. Thank you for answering her question for me :)... We are on the same boat.

agreed! i def have not been eating crap! i dont even crave sweets or junk. i have had pizza though also. i was just meaning i was worried b/c i can eat more than 4oz sometimes. depends on what it is.... sarah jane....its pretty impossible to go back to eating like i did before.... anew tanya.... this is the BEST decision i ever made. and im imposing a liquid diet to jumpstart my weightloss since i am in a stall. stalls happen to everyone and im about halfway to my goal! you are still going to struggle a bit and you have to control what goes in your mouth still...

I don't think people were trying to judge.. I think we all need to be brutally honest with ourselves and each other. You said that you tried pizza and that all you are eating is healthy food... both of those statements cannot be true at the same time.

I'm NOT saying you are lying about eating healthy, but I'm saying that maybe less healthy things snuck into your diet without you realizing because that is wayyy too easy to do. We all know that.

When someone says they can eat what they want, I guess I take that as literally eating what you want and disregarding what you're supposed to be eating post op. I don't mean to judge, but you say you ate pizza and can eat whatever. At some point you needed to try things that aren't on our "diet" too see that you can eat what you want.

I'm not trying to start a fight, I guess we all just need to word stuff different or not read into stuff so much.

And also, just because you CAN eat more than 4 ounces doesn't mean you should.

I say that meaning maybe you don't have all the "I'm full" indicators, and now you're overeating for your sleeve, which seems like it would create a stall or no weight loss at all.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
