April 2014 sleevers

Recommended Posts

I got my date! April 24th!!!! I go for my EGD on the 10th and also start my 2 week liquid diet on that day. It is definitley getting real now!

What's an EGD?

An EGD is the same thing as an Endoscopy I believe. It is where they run a camera down your esophogus into the stomach. I think it is to check for ulcers and acid reflux damage?? Not 100% sure.

Oh ok thanks! I had mine just never heard it called that.

I just got my date today. I'll be getting sleeved on Thursday, 4/3. It's kind of ironic, because I've been jumping through major hoops to get a date for many months, and waiting anxiously. It was so strange that out of all the dates that surgery could be scheduled for, the day that I was given is the on my dearly departed Grandma's birthday. We were both very close and I miss her so much every day. I am sure it's a sign that she'll be watching out for me along the way. I'm excited that the date is finally almost here, but getting a little nervous as it gets closer. It's nice to have this site to remind me that we're all in the same boat, and that I'm not alone.

I got my letter in the mail today w my EGD schedule and lab tests that will be the end of March. The letter says that the surgeon will review the results and barring complications, will then schedule me the next available date. Whether or not I can take that date will depend on my work schedule. I am hoping sooner rather than later.

Hi everyone, I'm new here but wanted to join this group. My surgery is scheduled for April 9th, but I've had to postpone it twice before now due to other medical issues (some neuro problems that are still undiagnosed). I meet with my surgeon again Tuesday, and my neuro has given me the go ahead. I just need to make sure my surgeon is cool with it!

Welcome April sleevers. I had my GSD yesterday. I believe GSD is the stomach scope. Wasn't bad just made my throat a lil sore after. But it went very quick.

U know they only said that it would relax me but all I remember is them saying they are putting the med in the IV and them saying ok we're done. It felt like I just blinked and it was over. I wasn't even groggy after.

It should be a conscious sedation procedure with an quick acting sedative that wears off quickly and has an amnesia effect. You wont remember much but can swallow and help during if needed

Constantly amazing myself. This is probably a normal experience for all of us on a WL journey.
This morning I was at 174 pounds (78.9 kilos). I can perceive that my brain hasn't really caught up to this yet, as I still feel obese, even though I am close to being considered a normal weight, not even overweight. The smaller clothes, the higher fitness level, the great blood work results, the energy- these all tell me a totally different story!
I have NEVER EVER been, never, not once in my life, nada, zip, zilch, zero times, been "thin." I think this explains some of the disconnect between the reality of my body and the stuckness of my brain. I do have confidence that my mind will catch up soon ❤️
Not really having the experience of true hunger yet, but I can perceive the peristalsis of my digestive tract. And I am getting very good at spotting head hunger, and simply noticing it, like a Buddhist.

I ordered the Barbecue Protein Crisps here from BariatricPal, and find them quite tasty. The Ranch flavour, not so much. They are very filing and have a satisfying crunch.
I continue to shrink, and am amazed at the changes all over my body. Visually, it is striking to me. In the mirror, I look thin to my eyes, but I don't feel thin, although I can see more bones and veins and tendons and floppy skin. Cardio-wise, It takes a lot more effort to get my heart rate up and I'm now monitoring which heart zone I can get into and for how long. My resting heart rate is the lowest it's ever been.
If I think about it, and I left myself feel it for a time, I weep (like, boohoo cry) with joy. I am so grateful to myself, and proud of myself for having the courage to have taken the leap to better health.
