February 2014 post op losers

Hi February losers! I know we've got a great group in the pre-op sub forum, but now that we are on to week two, thought we should start the thread over here too! I see a few other Feb stragglers around so hopefully they can join here too.

I had my surgery on Monday 2/3. I'm down 10.5 as of one week. Not sure if this is a normal amount or not. I'm not getting in much calories, but do get in Protein of at least 50g per day (need to up this) and all my Water. I have a drain which still causes me pain. Other than that thing, I'm doing good on my incision and recovery. Today I start back up work, but thankfully it's from home and I just have to work on a laptop or computer.

So looking forward to the losing phase of this journey with you all and learning and growing from each other.

Wow Zom, that is amazing! You look so great! Thanks for sharing.

Sorry I've been MIA. I had company in town and my computer is in the guest room. Will update soon.

Hi you amazing people. I just thought I would check in and see how you all are coming after your surgeries. Erin with so many changes your are doing absolutely phenomenal. Claire, very proud of you. I know I'll be doing the same thing with the fear of puking. Kim and zom, you guys are doing great too. No matter when I finally get my surgery I'll keep popping in to check on all of you. Hugs and continued good wishes.

Okay guys I'm getting very frustrated!

I'm a couple days short of being 2 weeks post op and I'm already at a stall. All the weight I've lost is from the first week after surgery. I hate that the weight loss has already slowed down and practically stopped.

I know obviously I'm going to start losing again but this early in the game is real frustrating.

Also I've finally experienced something getting stuck. Oh that it's horrible. I wasn't paying attention to my chewing and swallowed my scrambled egg to soon. Ouch!

Hi Zom,

I wanted to be sure before I wrote this, but I am in the same position. I lost a large amount in week 1 but I am now almost 2 weeks and this has not really changed much in the last week. If I am honest the weight loss in the first week was really a bit alarming because I was worried about how much of my nutritional requirements I was actually getting, so I was a bit relieved when it slowed down. However, the lack of loss in the past week I can identify with, but if I average it out I can't complain really. We just all need those positive signs of progression.

I hope it starts again soon for you (and me)

Claire

Would like to share. The picture on the right was me the day I began my journey back in late April 2013. I had lost 50 lbs total on my own before surgery. The picture of me on the left was today a couple days shy of 2 weeks. I've lost numerous inches around my body just since surgery. The shirt I have on in the left is my favorite shirt and it is now almost a dress on me! Crazy!

Wow Zom, you are looking so different already. I think the fact that this week has not been so good on the scales has been counteracted by the number of inches you have lost.

Congratulations!!!

Claire

So this past week has been really hard on me. My scale has gone UP two times and for the week I'm only down less than a pound. I've not eaten anything I shouldn't have, get in my protein, water, etc. I just don't get it. I know people say we all go through stalls, but this early in? And why? Yesterday I was feeling really down about it. I hope today I can get out of the funk. Sorry to be a downer.

Hi Kim,

It must feel so hard because you just need the positive vibes of losing weight so much when you have been through so much. I am a week behind you and not losing more than a pound or so in Week 2 is not brilliant either. So I do understand ( I think). Are you losing inches? I think some people find that reassuring for when the scales do not show them what they want to see?

I hope you feel a better and more positive very soon

Claire

Hi kimr,

I can completely understand your frustration. I follow "Bariatric Foodie" online (website and Facebook) and she always has inspirational things to say. One thing she said (right before I had my surgery) was to focus on you, and not the scale for at least the first 2-3 weeks after surgery. That your body is going through a healing process from major surgery and you should not worry about those pounds- they will come off soon. I have really tried to take that to heart. Hope that helps somehow.

K

I've lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks. 5 pounds a week is the average for me but it hasn't been an exact 5 pounds each week. I'm in my 4th week now and I'm on my monthly so I don't know how the scale will react.

I thought I would be down 25 pounds by now. But on the bright side if I averaged 20 pounds a month I would meet my goal in 4 months!

Kim,

I think around week 5 it will start to fall off. :)

I just got over my first stall which was only a week after surgery and it was super frustrating. I stayed the same weight for 3 days and even went up a pound but then after the couple days I starting losing again. I was so so upset when the scale wasn't moving especially when I was eating soups and stuff all day. I hope everything starts moving for you again. I know it's hard and I will have to take my own advice in my next stall but the stall isn't forever, just remember that.

I just thought for sure I would be like "oh I lost 30 pounds on one month!!" But that just isn't the way it's gonna go for me. :(

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I've lost a total of 65 lbs, which 15 of it is after surgery :)

How is everyone doing on their eating? I'm eating a lot of stuff that isn't in my stage yet but I have had no problems so that's good. It's much more satisfying when you are eating actual chewable food. When I was on broth and soups I felt like I was having to much intake. Things do get easier with time and tomorrow is my 2 week mark!

Zom.

So am I. I am eating very small amounts of food that can be chewed into oblivion.

I'm glad to hear that i am not the only one in a stall, I was beginning to think I was doing something wrong. I was told I needed to up my protein so maybe that will help.
