Three days in and feeling a bit confused

Recommended Posts

I got my band on Thursday. I'm getting around the house easily now, and am going up and down the stairs as much as I can. I still have a lot of pain in the center of my stomach, but that's due to some pretty bad bruising. I'm still feeling tired, but doing my best not to lie around too much.

food wise, Friday was all clear fluids, and today is the second day of full fluids. Am I supposed to be feeling restriction yet? So far I've had no problems drinking anything. Today I even started my Protein Shakes again, making half servings with skim milk instead of Water. My husband thinks I'm nuts, but I'm really worried about gaining or not losing weight right now. After eating, I am satisfied for the first hour or two, and then my stomach starts growling again. They told me at my clinic not to worry about this stuff, but I am and I'm confused as to what it's all supposed to feel like in my stomach. All I feel in there is the gas pain. I thought I'd feel some sort of restriction or something. I'm going to contact my clinic coordinator tomorrow with my questions. It's just all new to me and I don't want to make any mistakes.

I can totally relate! I got banded on Thursday and I have no restriction in my band. This is because i was told that they want to give my belly time to heal before I get filled. My first fill is 02/21. My appetite just came back and my stomach growls like crazy. I have been getting in about 4-6 cups of Water and my Protein is really gross to me now. I am so confused.

I know you're concerned because this is all new but not to worry..you really don't feel much of anything. Just remember to sip right now as your insides likely are swollen. Don't get on the scale...you may have gained weight because of the swelling and you don't want to focus on that now anyway. If you feel hungry, you likely are. It's better to be hungry than to feel sick so I think you're ahead of the game. Remember to follow the doctor's instructions, don't try to test the band..not now, and not ever...and you will do fine. Congrats on your surgery!

I really think it's too early to feel any restriction. The first few months are really hard because you don't have a lot of restriction. I'm 3 months out and have had 2 fills. I can feel some restriction because my band reminds me when I eat too fast or don't chew well. Do t worry u will get there!! Good luck and sugar free Popsicles were my best friend. They count as a liquid.

Most surgeons don't put much saline in the band at surgery time. You'll most likely need several fills before you feel any restriction or satiety. Some people feel it immediately but only maybe 1 in 20?

Thanks for the support everyone! I'm just so anxious to start losing weight. I guess I need to give it some time.

I was banded the 21st. At first I didn't think I could feel any restriction at all. I could drink anything I wanted really. Now I'm feeling some restriction when I eat my mushy's. I don't know if that's been the difference or not.

I'm also worried about gaining weight or not losing fast enough. I really don't want to be obsessing about it, but it's almost impossible not to!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
