Not sure if band slipped

Recommended Posts

I could use some advice. I'm not sure if my band slipped. I've researched and I don't have any problems eating or keeping fluids down. I don't have pressure in the area. And when I press against my stomach in the area where the band is located, there is no pain. The only problem I am having is pain, kind of feels like a pulled muscle but its in the area located around the band. It started yesterday after I woke up. I experienced no pain until after I lifted my 18 month old. Now it hurts to lift either of my sons, at times after standing up and moving around I feel nausiated but its not nausiation from eating or drinking. The only time I'm not feeling pain is when I'm laying down.

Here's my problem. I had the surgery in 2007 and it was paid for out of pocket. I have no insurance as I am currently unemployeed. I have never had any problem with the band except one time in 2009 I wasn't paying attention while eating and I didn't chew my food correctly and a piece of food became stuck. At that time I went and they deflated the band, the food passed through. My band has NOT been inflated since that time because I went from $40,000 a year, to $8.75 an hour to now not being employeed.

I hate my doctor with a passion. If I had to do it again, I would have the surgery with another surgeon. When the food became stuck in 2009 he yelled at me. Yelled, not talking to me as a normal person would with a loud voice but yelled at me. It was extremly unprofessional and uncalled for...trust me I didn't get the food stuck on purpose, it was a mistake and one that I have never repeated. I also refuse to go see him again because of how he yelled at me...did I mention he yelled at me!

Anyway, if I do have to go to see a doctor, it will have to be an ER at different hospital who also does lap band surgery and being unemployeed, I have no idea how I'm going to pay the bill.

I'm a bit worried because I literally have no money to go to the ER. Advice would be appreciated.

So, my question is...do you think its a slippage or maybe just a pulled muscle in the area of the band.

Only a doctor could be sure if it's a slip. But it doesn't sound like a slip.

Slips usually don't occur instantaneously. They occur over time and sometimes over years. Typical symptoms would be dysphagia(trouble swallowing), vomiting, regurgitation(immediate) and intolerances to certain foods. Reflux is also a symptom.

Your stomach is not attached to any muscles that aid in bending or lifting so picking up a child should not affect the band at all.

Your band is located deep beneath the sternum area and you can't really effect it by pushing on your chest or stomach and shouldn't feel it either.

These are all my own personal semi educated opinion and only your doctor can know for sure. A fluoroscopy could tell you if your band has slipped but if you're only experiencing pain, most likely it's a pulled ribcage muscle.

tmf is right, only the dr (with fluro/xray) can tell if you truly have a slip

i hope you feel better......

Could it be a hernia? Maybe you just pulled a muscle? Sorry you've had a bad experience with your doctor. That's just not right.

Do you mean the port and not the band? The port is attached to the abdominal wall, or supposed to be, and can pull and tear at the muscles, causing pain....especially when your abbs get tighter and flatter....

Thank you. It was very reassuring. I'm believing it's a pulled muscle but the location scared me.

Feeling better. Able to move without as much pain.

I don't think it's a slip of the band. But if you are having pain, something is wrong. Perhaps nothing to do with your band, but who knows. PAIN is warning that somethings wrong.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
