Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!

Good luck to everyone having surgery this week! For those on the other side, this liquid diet is killing me. I can only have true liquids, no pudding, Jello, etc. I can have Popsicles. NOTHING sounds good. I want to puke just thinking about Protein shakes and broth. Does anyone else have a constant, underlying nausea and rumble tummy? I have yet to hit 400 calories in a day and I barely make 30g of Protein. I'm sure I'm not getting enough fluids. I try adding Protein powder but that also makes me want to throw up! Any suggestions? I want an egg! Oh, and yesterday we took the kids to Sonic and they shared an order of mozzarella sticks. I think I would have given my left leg for one bite!

I love Bi-Pro Protein. It has no taste at all. You can mix it into anything cold. You can also mix it into warm (under 140 degree) Soup, coffee, tea, etc. I put in in a Blender Bottle, give it a good shape and it's done. It foams up a little, but it's really nice not to have a smell or taste.

I had my first dumping experience on Apple juice. It's in my week 1 post op diet. I diluted it it made me dump big time. I even drank some in the hospital. It's the most uncomfortable feeling in the world.

Just came from first Dr. appointment since surgery 11 days ago. All is well and going great. I have no restrictions as far as excercise goes. I still have to follow diet and nutrician gudelines which is pureed foods for three weeks yet before moving on to soft solids. I am down 15 pounds from the visit before surgery and liquid diet started and he says this is great :)..I am so happy with the way things are moving along.

I just got released from the hospital! 1 night in a hotel then I fly home! I miss my family :(. My pain is controlled with meds. I have 33 staples down my tummy!! My appetite is very low now until I start eating then I can easily eat half a cup and have to cut myself off but only if it's yummy food! Yesterday they served cr of potato Soup it was so yummy course I forgot to eat slow and after a few bites my tummy told me it was now in charge! Very painful! Lesson learned lol.

I buy Bi-Pro online, but I'm sure you can get it at some place like GNC. Get the unflavored.

Europer, Kudos to you for being back at work already. I could technically go back if I wanted to but I'm staying out until the week after next. I just needed a break and wanted to take all this slowly. How are you handling lunch at work - what do you take? That's what I'm trying to be prepared for.

I don't blame you for staying home longer. Honestly, I'm pretty sore and exhausted at the end of the day. I am eating purées now so today, for instance, I brought puréed egg salad. It's kind of hard though because I really do forget to eat and by the time I realize, I already have a nasty headache. I take Tylenol for the soreness, pills because I can't stomach the liquid! I take other things to eat at work, yogurt, pudding, Atkins shake, mashed potatoes. It's getting easier.

Thanks ERoper - those are great ideas & I love egg salad. Don't know why I never thought about it! And that's my problem at work - i work so intently I forget to eat sometimes! Maybe I'll set an alarm on my phone.... Thanks for the ideas.

I was advanced to 3 tablespoons of food tonight - ugh. Although I didn't dump, I know it was way too much. Fortunately I had already gotten in all my Protein, so I don't have to drink much tonight. I'm going back to 2 tablespoon again tomorrow morning.

I had my first experience of the "getting stuck" feeling last night, i ate 2 oz of broiled tilapia - it tasted good and I thiught it was moist enough. But I soon discovered it wasn't. I'll have to add some type of sauce or stock to it next time. Hopefully that will help. I picked fish over chicken for this reason. It may take some trial and error to figure this out - hopefully not too many errors!

Had my surgery jan 22. Everything went fine , got my gallbladder removed and hernia repaired.

It is so nice finally being post op and not worrying that something was going keep me from having my surgery. So for those pre-op hang in there and know you be so relieved once your post op.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
