Ok I have a question. It has been brought to my attention that I have a strange body odor. I cannot smell it, but others have. I have NO clue why? I am very clean. Sometimes I take two baths a day (morning and night). I really don't know what to do?? It was brought to my attention by someone who I have always thought to be one of my main supporters. So it's left me pretty crushed and heartbroken. But I am aware of it now, and I can't ignore it. Does anyone else have this problem? And if so what was the cause and how did you keep yourself from being "smelly" It must be pretty bad because I was told that I "smelled" the house up, and I left a scent in the seat I sat in.

I will say that I have a lot of excessive skin! I've lost 180 lbs this past year, and I'm about 9 months out from surgery. I'm on a high Protein, low carb eating plan.

I was just starting to get some confidence and feeling good about myself, And now I feel like I've had the air knocked out of my scales, and I'm back to square one where i want to run and hide. Now not because of my weight, but because of my smell.

Can anyone help me, Or give me some advice?

Is this smell new? Could it be a fungus or mold type smell because of wetness under the excessive skin? Might be something to discuss with your doctor. I am so sorry you are going through this! Hope you figure out the problem.

It's not Ketosis is it? How much is your Water intake daily? I hear folks saying that increasing your intake of Water will sometimes help with the odor.

I didn't have body odor but breath was horrible for a couple of months. Even though I kept up my regular 6 month cleaning regimine and brushed multiple times a day. It was my body adjusting to ketosis (I think).

Yes, ketosis causes bad breath, but I've never heard of it affecting body odor.

I can say my odor changed with ketosis. I never much noticed it on my breath, but my body sure smelled "off". It was especially bad for me for a few weeks post op as the anesthesia smell mixed with it. I am now almost three months post op and the smell has faded. I do get in more Water now so that could be part of the solution. Also, I use scented lotions and perfume (besides bathing of course) to help mask any lingering odor. The fact you are so far out does make ketosis seem unlikely, unless you recently readjusted your diet. I would check up with a doctor and see what they say. And please do NOT feel down on yourself. You have fought hard to get a body that is healthier for you. If an odor is the price to pay, well so be it.

Side note... I just thought of this, a literal light bulb moment! I started taking Probiotics a couple weeks ago. Since I have the odor seems to be less. I am not doctor, but maybe there is a correlation??

People in Ketosis, and people on a very high protein/low carb diet sweat out an ammonia smell. It's common in gyms to smell like ammonia because of this.

I have noticed keytosis in the early months after surgery with breath that could knock you out. I kept breath mints and lots of Water. As for body odor, i found I need more showers since I lost the 100+ pounds and have to keep wipes and body sprays to keep the feeling fresh smell through out the day. You would think being 180lbs lighter you would have less of a BO but the body does whait wants. Good luck in your Quest to find your scented solution.

I am so sorry that this is happening. There could be so many causes. Excess skin does harbor fungal infections. I had trouble with my belly button of all things ... It absolutely stunk no matter what I did. Until i treated it as a fungal infection ! Ask your doc for diflucan to see if that helps. Otherwise ... Try an OTC anti fungal on any skin folds. Any spray or lotion for athletes foot or a yeast infection will do. This next one will sound strange but try eating parsley. I used to make veggie smoothies with a load of parsley. It really helps with the breath and maybe body odor. I know it is frustrating !!

Hi,

I'm just wondering if the smell your are referring to is coming from through your pores or could it be from the extra skin? This is one of the things that I am concerned about. I've been asking my son before we go out if I smell funny. He gives me the craziest look lol. I just tell him to zip it and smell me haha! Have you found anything that works for you?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
