7 weeks post op, Starting an exercising class

Recommended Posts

I am a little nervous I have never really been in an exercise class. I really don't like exercising much but I know I need to. I joined the Y and I have been exercising on my own by walking on the treadmill and swimming. I don't feel like I am doing enough. What should I do to be ready for my class? Do I need anything special? No equipment is required. Should I buy workout clothes? How do I fit in? Maybe I should take geriatic chair exercise instead of the ripped exercise I signed up for I am NERVOUS!

You probably have a t-shirt. That will work. Go to Target or Lane Bryant and buy a pair of yoga pants or capris. Make sure your shoes and bra are supportive. It may seem silly to say, but you will feel better if you have specific clothes for your workout (although there's no need to go crazy with this.)

No need to fit in. If you go in with an open mind and attitude, you will find people who are willing to help. January is a tough time at the gym but you have been going and you are going to try something new.

Good luck! About 90% of this is showing up, over and over.

The bra is a good idea I only have one that fits right now. My band size has decreased by 5-6 inches since my weightloss began. My sister advised me to get really good sports bra. I have some jogging type pants I think will work for now but they are getting too big. Maybe I will check out the thrift for something else.

The bra is the most important thing for me. I started CrossFit in August. I had old yoga pants and exercise capris, and plenty of tshirts, but I wouldn't have made it through much without a good bra. One of the best parts about having the surgery is that I had to replace the pants last week: XXL to L! Yay!

My observation with swimming (since I took that up again recently) is that I had to think through everything I would need and make sure I had it ready to go, all the time. That meant for me that I needed to purchase some new stuff, and every time I got to the pool and noticed something that I'd be more comfortable "if I just had it" I got it. Everything from a new suit to ear plugs. To extra goggles when the first pair leaked. A lap counter. Now that bag is packed and ready and my excuses are gone.

Well, except for today. It's -10 here, more like -40 with wind chill. I'm going to stay home today unless I can get to the gym later. Or the kids drive me nuts.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
