Hi Everyone, I'm 12 days out now and can hardly believe I had surgery because I feel so awesome! I started eating cottage cheese and shaved roasted turkey deli meat (chewed til pureed) last week on day 7 cuz I was a bit sick of the sweet Protein Drinks and getting hungy. It went down fine with no trouble at all. So, I started adding more stuff I could chew. I had grilled lamb and oven roasted brussel sprouts for dinner last night. Yum!!! Doing fantastic and getting all my nutrients in according to my Fitness Pal app. I eat about a cupful of food at a sitting for meals. A little confused on the RDA for Iron supplements though. I adjusted my app to have a calorie goal of 1000. I took an iron supplement and it threw me over 300% of daily requirement. The supplement is CVS Iron (65 mg) and the bottle says it's 36% of daily requirement for an adult. My paperwork from the nutritionist says goal of 29 grams. Some websites say 25g twice a day. And so it goes on. What are your iron goals from your nutritionist? Cheers! Deb

I had to look over my stuff but I couldn't find any iron goals just Protein, cals, and Water.

Wen is your surgery. I am waiting for my insurance to approve. Did any of you have a copay b4 the procedure? I am excited but scared too.

I had to pay 960.00 plus my deductible. Still way better than twenty thousand though

Thanks XXShelXXddc4dddc6dcdf74 You're the first person to reply to my post. I feel more like a "real" part of the sleever community now. This whole thing is still surreal. The only other time in my life I had surgery under general anesthesia was when I had my tonsils out at age 17. Ironically, (LOL) I dropped to 118 lbs. after that due to my inability to swallow (the pain was horrible). Now I can't wait to be thin again -- even if I don't get down THAT far.

very excited for you! Had my tonsils out when I was five. Parents kept bringing me ice cream but I didn't want it lol

27 days post op 204 lbs Not much to post about lately cause I've been stalled now for a week. I hit the dreaded three week stall at 18 days out. Im going to have to get back to my Protein requirements because I've noticed since I started eating normal food I'm barely getting anything in.

Last night hubby wanted sea food which I'm not a huge fan of but I like catfish and figured that would be a great source of Protein. I made catfish, shrimp, fried okra, and red Beans and rice. I put a carefully measured three ounces of catfish on my plate and a tablespoon of tartar sauce. That was two fillets... I managed to eat one. So my dinner was 1.5 oz of fish. I should have stopped at one ounce I guess cause it sat there and sat there and I ended up getting sick :( live and learn I guess. As much as I'm sick of Protein Shakes I better just do it.

Hi XXShelXX, don't worry about set points/plateaus/stalls ~ distract yourself with a new scented candle, cologne, or some other reward for all the incredible progress you've made. I'm pretty sure I'd feel the same way you do and have an all-out toddler tantrum s well. Actually, the way you vented in writing here is also an excellent cathartic tool so give yourself credit for opening up to your online support system. By doing that you helped me focus on something OTHER than my own anxiety as my surgery approaches on Feb. 3!! Thank you - SINCERELY - for reminding me that I'm not alone on this crazy journey. When you DO break through to the wonderful 100's please document how it felt to encourage all of us when it's our turn. Blessings & Peace!

thank you Charlie :) it was goes with it but I'm certain we are all gonna get there sooner or later. Today I washed my truck, did the grocery shopping, planned out some meals, went thru my closet and tried on pants. Found a few that are too big now so I'm feeling better. Thank u for the kind words. It'll be here before u know it! I look forward to reading your journey.

XXSHE, wondering if you fried the catfish (the reason you got sick). Just curious. I have heard people here have gotten sick from fried food. 2 months out and I have not had anything fried. Good luck, sounds like you and everyone are doing fabulous!

I did fry the cat fish but pat it pretty good. I normally never dry anything at all though so I don't know if that's what made me sick. But we don't dump with the sleeve so I'd be surprised really. For the time being I'm going to stay away. Won't be hard cause I don't like seafood anyway lol like it even less now lol

Maybe others can tell us if they have had any bad experience with anything fried. I am supposed to go to a big family reunion in March and I heard the Friday night menu is fried fish so.........that was why I was asking. I do not want to get sick. At one month post op I had a small piece of chicken I didn't chew well enough. (soft crockpot chicken). It stuck near my breastbone and the pain felt like a heart attack! I have not cooked since. Scared me to death.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
