December 29, 201312 yr I'm 3 months from having surgery, so I'm spending my spare time reading everything I can possibly find about VSG. Lately I've seen a lot of people struggling with awful nausea. Is this normal? How long does it last? Thanks!
December 29, 201312 yr Nausea.. Ask for a patch right before surgery. It should last for about 3 days. Also changing eating plans ( phases) can cause nausea when u try new foods that your body is not ready for.
December 29, 201312 yr I had nausea the day of and day after surgery. The nurses had me sniff alcohol swabs and it went away! Amazing! I've had none since the day after surgery.
December 29, 201312 yr I am five days out from surgery and felt nauseous for about an hour after recovery. I think it was probably due to anesthesia. No problem since
December 29, 201312 yr Day 1 and 2 were pretty bad. I'll be honest. I smacked a nurses hand when she waved a alcohol pad in front of me! Get out of my way I'm gonna puke! The Zonfran wasn't working at all, so it turned out to be that I'm REALLY sensitive to dilaudid, so when we changed the pain med the nausea went away and never came back.
December 29, 201312 yr The only time I had any nausea was when I first came out of surgery, still groggy and oblivious to my surroundings but I somehow knew there was a nurse there and in my confusion said "nauseous, please fix it" and she (or he, I don't remember) shot me up with something and it never happened again.
December 29, 201312 yr Like others, I had the patch and never experienced any nausea. I believe most people don't, especially if they have a patch to help prevent any issues with it.
December 29, 201312 yr I am the odd one out here. I am almost six weeks post op and still nedd the zofran daily. Usually when I wake up is the worst. I also still need the medicine for stomach spasms sometimes the levsin or bentyl they both work well. Guess my stomach is really sensitive compared to others. December 29, 201312 yr None to speak of. I had the patch for surgery and they also put something in my IV. I had a couple of bouts post-op when I drank my Protein drink too fast. I take my Prilosec 2x daily and I think that really helps.
December 29, 201312 yr I had one instance and I rang my call button, got a shot and it went away. I am 9 weeks out and have not gotten sick once since having surgery.
December 29, 201312 yr Mine lasted a good few weeks post op. I had the patch, and 3 different types of shots n meds. Nothing worked for me. Edited December 29, 201312 yr by gomekast
December 29, 201312 yr I had a patch behind the ear and also an Emend before surgery. I felt no nausea. I was sent home with nausea meds and never needed them.
December 29, 201312 yr I had nausea for 5 days. Had surgery Monday, couldn't keep down water until the following Saturday.
December 29, 201312 yr I think it really varies from person to person! I had terrible nausea immediately following surgery. I wasn't surprised because many medications (especially narcotic pain meds), airplane travel, sea travel, etc. make me very nauseous easily. I stopped pain meds the day after surgery for this reason (did not take anything else for pain), drank lots of fluids and the nausea was gone in less than a day! The only time I experience nausea now (I'm nearly 3 weeks post-op), is when I overeat or eat too fast which is EASILY avoidable.
