2 weeks after surgery and hungry

Recommended Posts

rdbiles,

Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I didn't anticipate these little aches & pains this far out so it is reassuring to know that others have gone through it. Thanks again for the reply.

Hi, my name is Jessica and I was banded Jan 18th. I was restricted for about 3 weeks then I was starving. Every time I got hungry I would eat a fat free fudge sicle, Jello or fat free pudding. It is so important not to cheat before your first fill, because it needs to heal and you don't want the band to slip. It's so hard though, not to cheat. That 6 weeks was hell. I'm now in my 8th week, just had my first fill last week, and i'm loving it. I can only eat about 1/2 c and lost 10 lbs since the fill last week. I did lose 20 lbs in the first 3 weeks, but after the restriction, i got hungry, and i ate, and i was i didn't. But, i'm back on track. In my soft food stage I ate alot of mashed potatos and gravy. I love that I can eat carbs now and still lose weight. Keep up the good work. the first 6 weeks is hell, but it's worth it in the long run. It's the healing of your band right now that matters. I talked to a lady that paid for her band, like I did, she ate like nuts and her band slipped and had to pay 5,000.00 to get it adjusted and had to start all over again.

I think a lot of what feels like hunger pains is gas and when the liquids pass through your stomach. My stomach is always talking to me and it could be right after I have ate my meal. I think now we have to pin point out what is Gas or Hunger. So it may not be hunger.

My doctor told me that it is a common mistake that when people hear thier stomach growling that it is hunger. He said it is not. So, now i don't worry about it and let my "innards" do thier thing :heh:

:) For me the first week even a small amount of liquid would make me full or even uncomfortable. I thought this did not come before the first fill. Then all of a sudden I was hungry and really had to fight it. Finally decided that the swelling at the band site had lessened--Is that a word? The dr said that was the case.

My first fill is scheduled for next Tuesday 3-27-07. Can't wait till I have a success story to tell.

I was banded 3 days ago... I am so hungry. what can I do to make the hunger pains go away?

I felt this way after my surgery too. I would drink a Protein drink, have another fudgesicle and eat more Soup. Calories don't seem to count right now, staying hydrated is what is important.

O.K. I have a question about what everybody is eating...First I was banded on March 19th. My Dr. has me on a bariatric liquids only diet for 3 weeks (which is just Protein Shakes and Water (flavored or anything that is no calorie). I have read your posts and you guys are eating pudding and Soup and stuff like that...Can I eat that just one week out. I was under the understanding that I do Bariatric liquids for 3 weeks and the I go to puree for 2 weeks and the I get to go to soft foods....Is this right or wrong???

I also was banded 3/19 and am on an Optifast diet for 3 weeks. From reading the posts I think it is totally up to your doc and they are all different. I am having a hard time getting 4 optifast items down a day. I simply am not hungry.

Hello all.

I was considering a band and have met with the surgeon. He said I might have to take blood thinners to reduce a chance of a clot forming. Has this happened to anyone here??

And also does anyone know the actual reason why smoking is completely prohibited after surgery??

I'm working on my pros and cons list and any and all facts to consider would be appreciated.

Thank you, and best of luck to you all.

;)

Hi! I'm new on here and I'm 2 days post-op. I feel good except for a bad pain in the left side of my neck. Does anyone else have or did you have this pain? I know that the chest and shoulder pain is normal form th egas they put into you, but I'm concerned about my neck hurting. It hurts from the front base of the left side up to my ear sometimes. Is this normal? I too am hungry...

I am post-op 5 days and still having some chest pain but it has moved into my neck and left shoulder and back - I used a heating pad on it tonite and made it feel better.I'm going for my follow-up visit tomorrow and will speak to my doctor. Hope you feel better!;)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
