When will i start to feel ok?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was 12/10. I know i have been really lucky w/ being able to sip and no pain. By no means am i reaching my dr's goal of 48 - 64 oz of fluid/day and 60 g of Protein, but i feel like i am really trying. Cannot do any broth and feel super confused and stuck w/ what to eat/drink! I am also having a hard time sleeping - like 4- 5 hours max. I also have weird diarrhea - sorry! Anyone else? I am grateful that part of my body is moving but....

I feel very blah today, just cannot put my finger on it.

Looking around my ugly unChristmasy house - so much i wanna do but just can't!

THANKS for the start of this post - guess we should not complain as others are having so much trouble!!

I'm on day 8. My surgery was last Monday 12/9 and I'm not feeling 100% but I'm glad I'm at 60%. I'm on antibiotics too so I've been sick because if them. Every day gets better and easier ! You're doing better than me because when I was day 3 like you I was miserable and crying. Everyday gets better and better! You'll face new challenges but you'll get past them!

Hang in there. You are in the worst of it. I promise you, in 3 months when you have lost a ton of weight and are enjoying a normal diet (new normal, that is) you won't even remember this!

You are on your way. Listen to your body and rest. It will be worth it!

I was sleeved on 12/12/13 as well. I introduced Protein shakes to my diet yesterday and felt a little betters. Every day I feel better than the previous. My body always lets me know if I am doing to much because I would be sleeping in 5 minutes lol

I had my surgery 12/12 and while I am feeling better everyday there is also another set back each day. While today I wasn't as sore but I'm as weak as water!! Getting fed up now :(

I was Sleeved on 12/9, the pain is better but I normally have 1pain pill before bedtime. I am having significant issues with nausea, doctor called in a different medication tonight; hopefully, it'll help. Diarrhea is an issue (sorry) - just yuck. I also had my Gallbladder removed so that may also be causing my issues. Hot liquids continue to be my "go to." Walking outside feels so good.

We will all feel "new & improved.""

I also wonder if I'm supposed to be taking mylanta or something all morning I hear gurgling noises coming from my stomach going up and down. What the heck is that? I did nog get much Protein in yesterday as it grossed me out with Water. I'm gonna try taking it with 1% milk today. Any suggestions would be appreciated. #day6problems lol

Gurggling and strange noises coming from your stomach are completely normal. My clinich put me on an acid blocker for a month after surgery which helped. I had to split the pills though so they wouldn't get stuck. Not everyone has the loss of energy after surgery. I was sleeved on october 14 and was miserable in the hospital for 3 days with nausea but little pain and no gas. After I got home I had no more nausea and felt great. I wated to return to work after 1 week but my doctor wouldn't let me. I did also have diarrhea a few days after surgery so I had to stick close to home but it went away after 2-3 days. As for the Protein, I didn't have to worry about that for the first week post-op of Clear Liquids. After that, yummy Protein shakes were awesome.

I can't imagine what you all are going through. I had Surgery on 10-22. Walked almost a mile that day. Walked a mile everyday after surgery, till my Dad was put into the hospital a month later. I went back to work on 10-28, worked all day! I forced Water and Protein, even when I didn't want it. I think the more protein, the faster your body will heal.I have had NO problems! I would do this whole thing again tomorrow. Wish I had done it years ago. My only problem is drinking water! I hate the way it tastes now. Sometimes if I eat to much, I get sick, but that is also improving. Hang in there. It gets better!~!

It's been a week today since my surgery. I got my sleeve on 12/10. I have been able to shower every day but I feel very weak. I started Protein Drinks and strained cream of chicken and mushroom Soup by my 4th day home from the hospital per my Dr. Suggestion as I tolerate liquids fine. I find that I am still very tired and feel light headed I am also still in need of my pain medication. I have walked everyday since my surgery for 30 minutes or more. This tread is great. Sometimes I feel like I am not doing enough or doing too much. I have wondered if I should or shouldn't be taking my pain meds or if its weird that I can drink Water and Protein drinks with no problems. Then I worry why do I feel light headed and so tired. I feel more at ease reading about everyone else's experiences. While we all recover at different rates there are many people out there with similar struggles and successes. I'm glad to know I am not alone.

It took me about 4-5 weeks to start feeling better. The first couple of weeks were pretty rough for me, but I had an infection in one of the incisions, so I think that made it worse.

Congrats on all who recently had Surgery.

I too was feeling week on and off til About 2-3 weeks. I sure had enough energy to shop for shakes. Lol

My Nut eventually put me on Vitamin B12 and I admit to not taking my Multivitamins and I was low on Vitamin D. I felt like a new person though when I started my Vitamins. Rest, walk, Sip. Repeat.

I actually felt like a million buck yesterday and today. I'm on one week post op and already made a trip to walk at Disneyland. I made it. I feel like I should be wiped out but I'm taking the Vitamins and meds the dr advised and am keeping up my Fluid intake. Good luck to everyone feeling better xoxo

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
