2lb gain at 10 days post op?

Recommended Posts

Was sleeved on 12/3 and other than some crazy nausea at the hospital, I've had no issues. I've been walking everyday, no pain or pain meds needed. At my one week pre-op appt I had lost 13lbs. Today I got on the scale and GAINED 2lbs. How is that even possible at this stage? I'm bummed. Can it be a stall already? :-( [stats: SW:271 PreOp:239 1wkPostOp: 226 Today:228]

Disregard this. Don't weigh yourself more than once a week. I know, it's hard! Right now, your body is adjusting to some serious changes and going through a pretty major shock. Focus on your post-op instructions and follow them to a "T". Everything will fall into place, and the weight will come off...quickly. Soon you will be dealing with the (welcome) problem of having to shop for clothes constantly because the pants you bought 2 weeks ago are already too big. I promise!

Your body can hang onto Water while it's healing. This is not the time to stress about your weight. It will be falling off soon enough. You are going to succeed at this. I promise. Just follow the plan and keep your eyes on the prize.

I've been questioning the same thing. I had surgery on 12/10 and 2 days post op 9 pounds higher than my surgery weight. Now 4 days post op I'm still 3 pounds higher than surgery weight. Geez, I'm on Clear liquids ....

Andrew, the reason you are higher than your surgery weight is all the fluids they pump in you through the IV line when you're in the hospital. I think I gained like 7 lbs while I was in the hospital. The important thing to know is that it is all Water weight and will fall off quickly when its time comes. I'm 23 days post-op, and have lost the water weight + 24 lbs. Keep following the plan you were given and it will fall off. It will work!

hi andrew,

i had my surgery on 12/10 too. i am soooo glad i don't have a scale at home or i would be doing the same thing you are. my belly is still feeling swollen a bit so i know i've still got extra Fluid in me. my first weigh in will be on 12/19 and hopefully i'll see a loss there. BUT IF NOT then i know i'll have a whooshie at some point in the near future. (whooshie is when you suddenly drop a big chunk of pounds out of nowhere). hang in there and put your scale in the trunk of your car. :-)

ChangingMichelle, I hear you girl. It's been such a life long issue with watching the scale, our mood changes depending on what the scale said. They pumped a lot of fluids in me in the hospital, I too gained but it came off quickly once it did. It took about 4 days after the surgery for me but I know we're all different. I will have 4-5 days without any weight loss and then the next few days losing a few ounces to a few pounds. I am exercising and eating as I was told. It's been 5 weeks and my starting weight was 282lbs the day of surgery, now I'm 262.3 lbs, not exceptional like some of the people that post on here but I can say it is coming off - slowly but surely. Hang in there, I know you will be successful. We didn't gain it overnight and I guess, it's not coming off overnight. My biggest problem is trying to get all the fluids in. We can only keep at it and success has to follow. Good luck to all of you fellow sleevers......

Hey Michelle- I'm feeling your pain as I keep gaining and losing the same 3 lbs for the past week. I was sleeved 12/2 and I expected a more drastic and continual weight loss. I've gotten so bad I weigh myself several times a day.

I think we should all relax and let our new stomachs settle in before we make ourselves crazy!!! Keep venting here and reaching out for support, it helps to hear similar stories!

Thanks all! It does help to know I'm not alone. I am a perfectionist by nature (literally) so I find this maddening! Good thing I see my therapist tomorrow. LOL

Hey Michelle!

I was sleeved on Dec.4th and gained yesterday and then stayed the same today. I read somewhere that a 2 week post-op stall is normal. Apparently it is our just our "water weight" from our emergency glycogen stores replenishing themselves. We are probably still losing fat but because our Water weight is regulating itself back to normal, we won't see it on the scale.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
