Fort Worth Buddies?

Studies show that weight loss surgery patients who attend support groups lost 18% more weight than those that don't!

Yeah, I enjoy them. It's nice to hear other people whine about the same things you are going through. Most of the attendees at the moment are lap-band patients, but as the sleeve surgery is Dr. Smith's most popular procedure NOW, I'm hoping more sleevers start attending. They are Tuesdays from 6-7pm.

Everyone gives good support and good advice. They are usually led by the psychologist, but sometimes the NUT makes a guest appearance.

I wonder if this sort of forum is the same as a support group environment.

I'm not sure. The thing I like about my support group is that it's moderated by a psychologist or a nutritionist, who can weigh in periodically. Also, I really like seeing people in person.

Clmftw Is it an open support group? Or just patients of dr smith? If open I would love to meet you there sometime!

Clmdfw- you r right about the moderation piece... I would love to see people in person, just worried that with work, my daughters school and dance schedule, family and church commitments and the fact that my dr is in colleyville I will never make anything

I would love to attend a support group, Clmftw, but I am like barefeet and my schedule won't allow. I am using this forum for support and basic information.

I hope everyone has a great new year. I will be ringing it in with a muscle milk light!

TamiJ, I'll ask next week!

I'm sure that this forum DOES help! I'd be interested to know what, specifically, ABOUT attending the support groups helps people lose more weight. Is it the feeling of community and support? Is it scheduled visits with professionals to keep you on track and helping you with trouble-shooting?

Thanks Clmftw!

Bare feet, I have yet to make one of the support mtgs at our dr office. In October it feel on my egd day, November I missed and the December one I believe was the week we had our surgeries.

It's only one day a month, but have been wanting to go.

I believe it's open as well but I will find out.

Semply! Glad to hear your doing well! Keep on sipping and walking!

Mama, yes boredom got to me to after day 6, but then I didn't go back until day after Christmas, day 11, luckily getting ready for Christmas Eve and day helped take the boredom away!

Goid luck getting back in the saddle for work my fellow ft worth buddies!

They let me come home about 1 this afternoon. The walking wasn't horrible and I plan on doing some walking around the neighborhood now that I'm home. So glad I did this. No regrets! Thanks for the support guys.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
