Pre op diet over the holidays

Recommended Posts

Sacrifice: to surrender or give up, or permit injury or disadvantage to, for the sake of something else. One thing you'll find about this journey - it's a series of gives and takes. Another thing you will find out about this journey - you are stronger than you know. I was two weeks post-op at Thanksgiving - I knew I wasn't ready to be around a bunch of people eating food and I didn't want a lot of questions about why I wasn't eating (not everyone at the get together knew I had surgery). So, I went to the party before dinner and had a great time visiting with my family, then I went home right before dinner was served. I went home and had a Protein Shake. It sucked, but I'm still alive to tell the story. You'll do just fine with your broth as long as you have the right frame of mind - you have this great opportunity ahead of you. Not everyone is given this chance to change their lives. It is truly an opportunity for your life - something that eating for 30 minutes cannot overshadow. You'll do just fine - just stick to your plan and enjoy your time with friend and family.

Thank you so much. I might just do that. Because I can hear all of the questions now.

I find with my family that when I say things like, "My stomach…" and make a vague motion, not only do they not want to ask any further questions, they also don't really want me around in case it's catching.

You can only use that once though. :-)

Lots of encouragement here... I've been thinking the same thing! I start my pre op liquids the same day on the 13th. First thing when I told my fam...oohh NO gumbo for you!!! But I can do it! I've been working hard for months to get this surgery! I will be praying for you and hope you will be praying for me in return... Just think of the real reason for the season... Celebrating the birth of Jesus...not food...

You are so right. My husband told me the same thing no gumbo for you this year. How funny. I will keep everyone in my prayer. We have to keep in touch over the holidays. Are you getting sleeved on 01/06?

Girls, let me say this. I love gumbo and I will be making it soon. I do my own version with the spices I love, adding everything I like. Rice will be the only thing to not add, but as a seafood/chicken gumbo, you can eat a healthy version and enjoy. I have taste tested a little taco sauce, spicy enchilada sauce on a tsp LOL, because I love spicy. I added medium taco sauce on a little refried Beans and yay, even that was good! Good luck!

My mother made seafood gumbo last Sunday and it was so awesome. Im from Mobile Al and we love it. I know after surgery that's something I can eat without the rice around week 6 or 7. I'm going to try it with the Beans.

If I get lots of the minced okra in it I will be very happy and leave off the Beans. I have been planning my gumbo since my surgery. As little as you will be able to eat, actually I think you can have some rice. My husband is a 35 year diabetic sleeved 12/2, and he will get NO rice. his BS was averaging 350 a day and is 100-120 since surgery.

I started preop 12/06, surgery is 12/19.

I have survived one Christmas party thus far. (The day I started liquids) Have another this Sunday 12/15. I will be post op for three Christmas family gatherings and will still be on liquids for New Years. We can all do this! Just remember how good you'll feel (and look ;-) next holiday season.

I start my pre op on Monday and will have surgery on Dec 30. On Christmas, I am going to focus on the babies in the family and play with them while their parents get a break and can eat uninterrupted.

It is one day and I keep telling myself that holidays are about family and not food. Good luck!

I start mine Monday as well. Surgery scheduled for Dec 30th. Christmas dinner is at my house this year. So I will just be super busy. I'm usually the last one to sit down. So this year I will just act to busy & keep everyone entertained.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
