Food Intolerance

Recommended Posts

Two weeks out here. What symptoms do you have when you're not tolerating a particular food? What have been your experiences?

Tonight was my first night off post op liquid. I tried refried Beans and a little salsa, within 10 mins I was regretting my choice. Tight chested and belching feeling upward pressure for the next 60 minutes. I thought I was going to throw it up, but managed to keep it down. I learned a couple of things, I eat to fast and I need to reduce the portion size a little more to get started. I have been having no issues at all the last 2 weeks with Water, Protein Shakes and plain yogurt.

Thick purees are a totally different ballgame. Few small bites and you'll be done.

I dumped off too much sugar free Torani Syrup. Instantly felt the sweaty hot flash, shakes, ran to toilet where I spent the next 45 minutes.

My sleeve also doesn't like chicken at dinner time. Odd.

I'm one of the "lucky" ones with a cast Iron sleeve.

But I think I will regret that. I sort of wish I would dump with my former favorites…not that I have tried them all yet, but so far the bite or so of sugary stuff? Nothing. A little wine? Nothing. Different meats? Nothing. I would love to have the "allergic" response to the stuff that is not good for me…it would be easier to keep away once I'm totally back into all foods.

I'm with you here except for two things (the two things I want/need). My stomach will NOT tolerate Water or Protein Shakes. I've gotten too full too fast but other than that my sleeve gives me no issue unless I try to drink water or shakes. It's slowly getting better (ill be a month out on Thursday) but so far that's been one of the biggest hurdles.

Mhm! Unfortunately I've had to put weight loss on the side burner in favor of hydration of any kind. The icier it is the better. I freeze milk, juice, get low cal options on the go, anything to prevent dehydration cause I do not wanna end up in the hospital!

Although I had complications, it wasn't able to drink plain Water until 7-8 mths post op. I lived on G2 Gatorade.

Now I can't go without my Water, but I use Crystal Light 99% of the time. The trick was finding flavors I could tolerate. Which is only one rt now. Everywhere I go I have my flavored water with me. Even out shopping. Before I decide if I am really hungry and want to eat, I drink first and see if that takes away my hunger. A lot of times it does.

As far as shakes I can only tolerate Jay Robb and Muscle Milk Light. Mixed with water.

Anything with tomatoes is not working for me. Funny, I had the same issue with tomatoes during chemo.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
