December Fitness Challenge

Hey folks. It's time for the December addition of the monthly fitness challenge. For those of you unfamiliar, the goal is to set a specific fitness goal for yourself, and then go for it. The goal should be specific and measurable, so that you can keep a running log here toward your progress. Some common goals are xxx miles run/walked/bicycled over the course of the month....xx hours on the elliptical, stationary bike..... xx workouts per week or xx hours spent exercising per week. Whatever you want, so long as it is specific and measurable.

Start off by introducing yourself and stating your specific goal...then come here each day or as often as you'd like and update your progress for the month.

The whole point is to set a goal that is slightly above your comfort level....one you have to push yourself a little to achieve. But whatever your goal, the success will come for reaching for it....whether you make it or not is irrelevant. We all have setbacks...we get sick, injured or just plain busy. If that happens, don't give up. Just amend your goal and continue on till the end of the month. This challenge will carry is right into the new year and hopefully by the time it's over all of us will be breathing easier and feeling better from the activity.

Ok....I'll start. My goals for December are to run 120 miles, swim 9000 meters and do 1500 walking lunges.

Monday morning check in...I am at 31.75 miles so far for the month. I didn't get much this weekend with all the family activities we had going on so time to step it up. Good thing is, I picked up a fitness station at a garage sale Saturday for $30, that was fun moving that monster. Garage is looking like my personal gym now...lol Keep up the great work everyone and go grab this week and kick it in the teeth!

I love your new profile pic! Your face is getting skinny. WTG!

Mondays! GRRRR

CHEST DAY

3 sets of 12:

DB chest presses

DB lying flyes

DB incline flyes

DB straight arm pullovers

DB bent arm pullovers

CORE

3 sets of 20 decline crunches (hate)

3 sets of 20 VKR

3 sets of 20 hyperextensions forward, left and right with 25# plate

CARDIO

34 minutes on the stairmaster (more than 30 because my favorite Disturbed song came on my iPod! :P )

Just getting back into a routine, so I will probably be VERY sore tomorrow morning!

And according to my Loseit app burned about 700 calories! It was sooooo much easier for me than the last time I shoveled any significant amount of snow. Didn't bother my lower back at all!

It's all that nekkid planking you've been doing. Thank goodness you don't shovel snow in the same outfit. Or do you?

Haha...it hurts getting the body back into motion. Especially after a break. Before you know it you'll be in beast mode again. RAAAWWRRRR

I was wearing a smile and my headlights were on!

No miles today, but I did get a 45 s plank done.

Day 7 Insanity - I am definitely capable of doing more than on day 1, but it is still brutal! I am recovering more quickly though, walking away from the gym halfway to my hut, there is a short bit of stairs - the first few days I had to use the handrail because I thought I would fall down the stairs I was so jello and now I don't need it.

What type of exercise is the plank?

I'm just joining the group so I will do 30 min a day on stationary bike and 30 min of treadmill a day and 30 min walking outside. Haven't been exercising at all. Need this motivation especially this time of year. I will check back later. Good luck to all of us!

I just learned of this thread, so I need to catch up! Here are my goals:

30 minutes a day on the stairmaster six days a week and resistance workout an hour a day six days a week.

That's alot of working out. Nice goals.

I had a nice 7.5 mile run today putting me up to 30.8 MTD. And I added a pawltry 20 lunges to my total..bringing that to 140.

I'm barely on pace to reach my running goal. Way ahead of pace to reach my swimming goal...I may shoot for 10,000 meters....but I'm way behind on my lunges goal. I'm telling you, those lunges suck. They are cruel and unusual punishment.

Butterthebean you appear to be doing well with your goals! :-) I have to get back motivated! :(

UH OH! I'm going to miss my regular workout today. :( :( :( I have a sick kiddo (flu) and while normally I would leave her with my husband while I go workout, he has to pick up his parents at the airport at the SAME time as my two classes. Sigh.

So my mini-goal for today is to do some running on the treadmill and scrape up a weight workout in my very own basement. Maybe the temps outside today will even get above 25...that would feel downright balmy!

Anyway, it would be MUCH easier to sit around in my sweats and do nothing, but I'm determined to do SOMETHING!

That's great M2G...I trying to get by motivation back so I can be more determined like you. I think I worked out so much in the beginning now I'm like blah...lol
