N E 1 been Banded at Mt. Carmel col, oh

Recommended Posts

As I sat in Andrea's class on nutrition, I looked around the room and wondered if any of you were there.

I met a nice lady after class named Antrinette (probably spelled wrong) and I referred her to this web site. I told her how supportive and enlightening I have found it.

There were probably 12 people in that class and as I listened to them ask questions, I realized how much more I knew just by reading your posts. Therefore, I would like to thank everyone who posts their great questions and for those of you who continue to share your wisdom. It has been invaluable to me and I am sure it is nvaluable to many others.

I am, like many of you, awaiting my surgery date. I am ready to get my outside self to match my inside self. Keep those posts coming. :(

Kathy--I have a total of 6.5cc in my 14cc band...and HOLY COW!!! I could tell the first two day of liquids and muchies that there was "something" there. I had not really felt the band before this. So this am I tried scrambled eggs--no way. Not going anywhere...so I waited a few hours (I have heard that mornings can be a little tighter) and tried again around noon...I took three bites and knew I had to stop. I got up and jumped in the car to head to Lowes...and had to run back into the house to go to the bathroom. I never threw up, but I know what the "slime" thang is now! I felt better after about a minute and was able to go about my shopping. I am getting ready to try something else for lunch...something a little less dry! I let you know how it goes...but for now, I am learning a ton about my band!

ND, welcome to band land!

Niki, when you are to tight to get food down what are you feeling? Do you feel hungry and just can't eat or what?

Sue--when I was unable to eat the scrambled eggs I was not really hungry. I just new I was going to have a physical day of working in the yard, so I though I should eat some Protein. When it felt stuck at noon, I was still not really hungry, just wanted to test the band and see how tight it was. The "stuck" feeling I had was not really a pain, more like a pressure. It felt a little like someone was sitting on my chest. The slime that I had was not as thick as I thought it would be, it was just mouth-fulls of saliva. After I spit them out, I was fine, nothing else came up and the pressure was gone! I had only had a few bites of egg, so maybe the pressure/slime would have been worse if it was something more solid or if I would have ate more of it...who knows?I never felt hungry at all yesterday--although I was able to eat a banana, Protein Bar and strawberries yesterday without any trouble. Today I am going to try to eat some meat and see how that goes...

Kathy--June 10th will be here before you know it! It is amazing to see the effect of 2 cc's...I hope Dr Miller is as aggressive as Dr Choban. (although, MidOhio seems to follow the lapband guidelines to a T)

Thanks Niki...I was having visions of starving and not being able to eat anything. If you can't eat and you're not hungry.... that doesn't seem like a bad thing to me!:P

Sue--It would be terrible if I was hungry, but I honestly have not felt hunger since this last fill. I know that the fills tend to relax a little after a while, and I am fine with that...but as for right now, I am a happy camper!!!

I also felt something yesterday for the first time...I have read about "the wrong foods going down easily" and people eating "around" the band, and after dinner last night I know what they mean. We went to a local place and I ordered the pulled pork sandwitch. My plan was to eat half of the meat (no bread) and the 2 or 3 tablespoons of coleslaw that came with it. I knew I needed extra Bar-b-que sauce, so I got it to dunk my meat with, and started very slowly. I ate about 5 small bites of the pork and my DH said "Are you ok". I told him I was going to take a break and eat my slaw...the few bites of slaw when down very easily. I thought hmmmm, I will try the pork again...and it was a little more pressure than before. I finished my slaw and stole a fry from my DH, all without any pressure. I took one last bite of pork and deciede to call it a nite. No nausea, slime, PB...but pressure. I boxed up the rest of my meat (more than 3/4 of it) and headed to the park with the kids...

I was so excited to see how I can still eat out and not feel like I need to undo my zipper on the way to the car! I understand how easily the coleslaw and fry went down and how people might just skip the protein...but that would not be using this amazing blessing to its full potential! I feel so lucky right now! I need to remember this feeling when negative thoughts start to creep into my head!

Sorry this post is sooo long. Have a great Monday guys!

Isn't that great? I love going out to eat and then eating for the next two days out of the left overs. Now if I could just stop snacking at night I would be doing good!

Good for you Nikki!! I originally thought "How am I going to eat without drinking?" But if the band is tight enough you truly can't. if I have eaten an feel satisfied a drink makes me feel 'stuck" and then it gets unpleasant. I am doing well but somedays fel tighter than others. Not sure if I'll get more in the band or not. Glad it's finally working for you>:(

I went to the Mt. Carmel Bariatric Support group meeting last night. It was on nutrition and planning ahead for vacation. I met a few more of the lapbanders who spoke up in the meeting when they were sharing stories or questions. The one lady that had a major problem with rice was there and she gave a graphic description of what sliming is for everyone present and had the RNY's half laughing and half grossed out. July's topic is on Self Esteem and that is one I can use some work on.

Take care and have a great day to all. Nice to hear the stories of managing the band when you know you're hitting the fullness spot.

wtg tm on being one step closer. I am off to mcw now for another attempt on a fill or to see if/when they are going to replace my band. I hope I get some news today because my DH is almost more upset about this as me. So far 12 weeks of weight loss has been wasted. I wanted to be down 65+ lbs. for my 26th birthday. Unless a super miracle happens by Sunday I am SOL. I will let ya'll know later. Have a super swell day my friends.

Katie - are you thinking they are going to find from the fluro that your saline has leaked out and you don't have restriction from the 2nd fill where you and I were in the x-ray area back to back on April 29th? My next fill is June 10 and I feel I need it. I have some restriction but need more.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
