Nsv: Eating At A Food Court Post Surgery

Recommended Posts

So we decided to walk in a mall tonight. We head to the food court to get dinner and I have to go to the bathroom. My husband is going to wait for me.

I come back in four minutes and he says, "I'm really sorry, but I ate without you" and shows me four toothpicks of free food they gave him as he strolled by the various stalls there. Yup, four pieces of chicken and the man is too full for dinner. I know people thought we were crazy when we both burst out laughing.

We went to get me some chicken from a thai place there and it took a while for them to understand we didn't want rice or noodles just chicken. Then we made them put half the chicken back because we would never have finished it. And then we didn't even want a drink! We were no fun, I tell you and dinner was $4.24. For both of us.

You can relate, can't you? hasn't life changed?

Oh yes! I can totally relate. I can go to a restaurant and order my food. When I'm finished they always ask if everything was ok like they know it wasn't. Also, I drink my tea when they first bring it so it's been a while until my meal comes and they keep wanting I refill it. When I say I won't be drinking anymore they look at me like I'm nuts.

On Fridays, you can get a pretty complete dinner just trying (protein based) samples at costco - free dinner for four or five bites.

We were talking about that the other day. I always thought it was only the weekends, didn't realize it was Friday. That's actually better. The place is a mad house on weekends typically!

Yea, I was with a friend (who is not sleeved) and a little nervous about lunch, but we both had enough samples to allow us to forego lunch. It was free and fun.

I went to Applebees and ordered a 550 calorie meal. It ended up being 3 meals for me....loved it!

Yeah I love the fact that I can pig out on a spoon full of mashed potatoes and a sliver of chicken lol. I didn't realize how much food I was eating until I compared my plates now to what my wife normally eats. And my plates used to always be twice what she could even handle. Its amazing stuff.

This makes me laugh! What a funny moment. Your husband has a great sense of humor.

My friend who was also sleeved and myself ordered a chicken breast and squash to share for dinner. I ate a few bites, she ate a few more than me as she was sleeved 9 months ago. There was still 3/4 of the meal left. The waiter looked at us like we were nuts when we asked for a to go box. Made us laugh but he was offended. He thought we didn't like the meal and were taking it home to the dogs. We did finally explain. We ended up answering many questions about our sleeves. He was very curious.

My husband is much nicer than I am I guess, because he feels compelled to explain that the food was good but we just can't eat that much. I am happy to just say "Yes it was great!" and leave them guessing. :P So we go into this every time we go out for dinner.< /p>

I think it will be easier when we're skinnier. Because now when we say "We can't eat very much" I know they probably look at my fat butt and go....."Riiiiight. Whatever lies get you through the night lady...". Maybe when we're smaller, they'll believe us.

You know Gamer, my hubby is heavy too. Probably not heavy enough to do the sleeve with me but it would be SO cool to have gone through this with him. I think it's awesome that you're getting to go through this with him.

we almost didn't. I've been wanting it for a while but he kept thinking we could do it on our own. He had all these comorbidities but he's at least as stubborn as I am.

Finally I told him that he didn't have to do it, but I was going to do it, and I wanted his support and I would need his help. I told him that I was tired of being fat, and I wanted to live whatever life I had left as a thin person.

And then he decided, so did he! what a coinky dink! :)

But yes it's been a marvelous journey together. I love that we each know what the other is going through. And seeing the changes in each other, encouraging each other, it's been great.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
