December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Alright December Sleevers, I'm hoping that this title brings more people in so we can follow and encourage each other through our journeys.

I am 40. I'm 5'4" and about 308 right now. I'd like to get to a healthy BMI which would be around 145. I'm hoping for a December 4th or 5th date with Dr. William Johnson.

Everyone introduce yourselves!

So I'm freaking out. I just got my preop bloodwork back and it turns out, I'm PREDIABETIC. I can't believe I let myself get to this point ....surgery on Monday thank goodness. Just needed to vent...

Dont beat urself up or dwell over it, ur finally doing somthn about it so be proud of urself. This surgery is NOT EASY OR THE EASY WAY OUT, so know that ur fighting to b healthier. And know that once its done, the numbers will b awesome, praise God. Now, stop worrying and welcome ur new life!

Just got home from the hospital. Feeling a little pain, but not too bad. So far, this has not been as bad as I expected. Hopefully that will continue.

Glad to hear that it has gone well. All the best to you.

It's my Birthday!! I'll hopefully still be having surgery on Monday, but I wanted to wish all of the 12/12 sleevers a safe and successful surgery and a speedy recovery! I can't wait to hear how everyone's surgery went. I def can't wait to join all you sleeved wonders on that bench!! Sending my prayers up and out to everyone today! You guys are going to do A-MAZ-ING!!!

SoPeachy28:

Happy Birthday! I know its tough being on liquids on your birthday, but just think of how many birthdays you'll be adding to your life with your healthy body post op! We'll probably be in surgery with hours of each other. Good luck to you….just 3 more days!

Did anyone else get really bad headaches on their pre-op diet? I started on Monday and have had really bad headaches everyday... So bad that I had to take ibuprofen. I won't take any ibuprofen after tomorrow because I technically am not required to start my pre-op till Friday, but wanted to kind of ease myself into it and am glad I have... Days one and two were pretty hard, and now on day three, I'm not even hungry! The hardest part for me is getting under 40g of carbs per day... I never realized how many carbs were in everything!!! The "sugar-free" items still tend to have carbs, so it's pretty much just room for three protein shakes a day and a ton of water for me...

Sns513:

Yes, I had the headaches and they couldn't have been from caffeine because I don't drink it regularly. I changed the protein shake I was drinking to another brand and the headaches went away. I don't know if it was the drink or that my body just got used to the change?

My doctor's pre-op plan is one week of a protein shake for breakfast and lunch (with special protein bars for snacks), and one lean meat and green vegetable (no carb veggies) a day. Then in the second week - which is where I am now, it is 5 shakes a day along with sugar free liquids. I've been hungrier this week.

Something else you might want to try is to add liquids that replace the electrolytes such as Propel or G2 Gator aid. I am also allowed broth and tomato juice. Hang in there, it will get better!

Hello All....

My name is Belinda and I started this process in March 2013. Just got my call on Friday and my surgery date is December 26th at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda Maryland. Couldn't ask for a better Christmas gift and way to start out a new year.

I'm currently 5'2" weighing 205 lbs

I have High BP, diabetes, sleep apnea, high triglycerides and hope the surgery will resolve these issues.

Hi Belinda:

Glad you joined our group. What a great present to yourself - a new body for the new year. I too have sleep apnea, and high blood pressure - I hope we can both get rid of those issues in the new year!

Thank you so much! Good luck to you too! Not sure when I'll get back to the list. Maybe others can copy and paste the next few groups for me and wish them well on the eve of their surgery! Can't wait to start all over with my new tiny tummy!

Happy Birthday SoPeachy! I have surgery tomorrow at 7:30 am mountain time. Can't wait feel like I am forgetting everything lol must be the nerves. Good luck too all of us tomorrow and prayers for quick and good recoveries for all.

Hi everyone! I am one week away (Dec 19th) from surgery. Looking at our list, I am still on my own! I have to say that I am not at all nervous about the actual surgery, but how I will feel immediately after. I think nausea is THE worst feeling in the world. I also have been known to end up back in the hospital after surgeries with severe dehydration. I already know that I will be in the hospital at least 2 days, so that makes me feel a little better, also, my husband will be staying with me to motivate me to walk, cough and deep breathe.

I did purchase a night gown since I don't normally wear one and was told I would be more comfortable without an elastic waist band. But, I am wondering if I should just stay in the hospital gown? Did anyone wear their own? and if so, did they get soiled?

I wore the hospital gown and my own pajama pants so I wouldn't flash anyone while walking. :) My clothes did not get soiled. I came out of surgery pretty clean, and was put in an abdominal binder in recovery. That has a bit of iodine (?) staining, but my clothes were fine.
