Port placement

Recommended Posts

Hello I'm recently scheduled for surgery on 12-17-13 after about a 4 year process. I've heard of ports being placed on Tummy, chest, and under arm pit area. I'm curious if placement makes any difference ie working out , being able to see it or fills.

Mine in on my abdomen... just under my right breast. No problems with it here. It may depend on what sort of exercise you plan after surgery. If you do a lot of core/abs work you may make it sore at first.

Mine is in the middle, about 2 inches below my bra line.

Mine is just to the right of my belly button. It's visible now that I've lost weight. Oh well!

would any of you change where the port was placed? or has the port bothered any of you in any way?

My port is off the right side of my belly button. I've had no problems with it at all. I run, do the elliptical, hand weights, planks, sit ups, push ups etc and have had no issues with it at all (once it was all healed!) I'd talk with your surgeon to see where he typically puts them, you may or may not have a choice, plus they take in to account your anatomy.

I may be the odd one out.....my surgeon prefers to place them in the chest area as he has found they are much easier to access. Mine is in slightly above my breast on my left chest wall, not noticeable at all and my scar for port placement is in my left armpit. Personally I wouldn't change the placement of mine and have had no issues with it almost a year out :)

Mine is in the same place and I wouldn't change it either! I like that you can't see my biggest scar because it's underneath my underarm :-)

Mine is to he left of my belly button. I almost had it switched out when I had my Tummy Tuck but I didn't want to spend the couple grand it would take to get my bariatric surgeon to assist in the surgery so I passed. I now wish I would have done it but quite frankly it's really not a problem ... I kind of like it sticking out a bit... It's a constant reminder of my band!!

Mine is above and to the left of my belly button. I find myself putting a hand there as a reminder. Grounds me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
