First consultation tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Hi, I go tomorrow, Thursday and am interested to see what they have to say. I am similar to you Rose with about 80lbs to loose. But my insurance will not cover it- I had a phone consultation today and since I may have a hernia, I may be able to get it done for about the same price as if my insurance covered it- we will see.

Hi Rose it went very well. I was 1.6 lbs shy of 20 lbs gone:)...but my healing is great im one week post op today. My goal is to lose 7 lbs for my next follow up in two weeks. I had a hernia repair too, and a bad one too...so bad I choked at night while sleeping...and its an awesome feeling no more gruggling at night.

Oh that's awesome! Where you given an exercise regiment? I was reading on how to chew your food after being banded...have you had any difficulty swallowing?

I can start walking then slowly work towards more run or whatever im comfortable with. Right now im in the mushie stage, but my friends is a few days ahead of me and shes in the soft foods. The only thing I can say unless u have experienced the stuck feeling its hard to described that you will learn to chew your food and not swallow it entirely. But besides that its all good:)

I started in June and will be banded early in November. While the process at times seemed excruciatingly slow because I was so excited about moving forward, I think it was good for me to have that time to really learn about the band. I did that here, reading people's posts and asking questions, really delving into what the post-op life will mean. I recommend taking your time and learning all you can. That will help assure your success. Good luck to you and welcome to the forum!

I have the scope set up for 11-04 and from there I will know if I get banded- if no hernia- no band. It sure would be nice to have a bag of money show up on my doorstep

I had the same feeling too..no hernia no band fyi im not a dr but im sure if u have been told you have acid reflux u must have a tear. Tonight I kinda took day 10 ahead, I ate a small fish....ohhhh sooooo yummy...had like 7 fries...and yes chewed it up until it was very mushie. I can honestly say "I am full, but a happy full!!! " my mom was like r u sure u are full? U hardly ate nothing. I told her " Yes , Mom, believe it or not im very satisfied" I feel like I accomplish a mile stone tonight. Any other time prior to my band I would had this instead ; 2 margaritas w/ chips and dip plus Ordered extra chips, then an enchilada plate w two torillas. And then drink whatever my mom had left over. When I go to any restaurant w my mom its our time and I love to see her enjoy so its always been a margaritaville with her. But she understands now its for my health. She was very understanding tonight, but a bit sad. I told her its ok we juat need to learn to drink wine but just to slightly enjoy for a once in a while enjoyment:)

Im sure yall girls will do fine. Its just the idea of getting all this going and actually doing it.:)

I caught myself sleeping on my stomach the other night and well im a big tummy sleeper, I did change to my side just because im still a bit tender. As far as alcohol there is a video that explains about that. I do have to say its all up to u. If u go thru this journey do u really want to still hVe the bad habits we had before?

Once the tenderness goes away then its ok to sleep on ur belly? That's the only way I sleep lol. As far as drinking I haven't been a big drinker in years but the occasional happy I'd like to be able to enjoy that from time to time

omg I love a basket of chips with red and green sauce then some cheese enchiladas and a taco! HOWEVER, I love my children more and think it is time to really think what all this is about. Sweetrose, not to go all Jesus on you but I too have been having a ton of doubts lately and have been really thinking about it and this is my conclusion. My weight has held me back my whole life- no enchilada crawls in my bed and tells me it loves me. When I have a doubt, I think, that is the devil, wanting me to stay where I have always been, a little afraid, a little hesitant, a little held back and I don't think that is the life I was created for. As I deal with my fat/ weight issues, I will be stronger for myself and my family, I will be teaching my children restraint and moderation, I will be able to put my energy somewhere else other than figuring out how I can get a third enchilada without seeming like a freak. I will be free. Not to say losing weight will change everything, my life really is pretty good now, but it will help me move on to more. Stand fast.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
