I'm still at 192. Ready for this stall to be over!!

I know how you feel. I was stalled for 3 weeks this last time. Before that, it was a 2 week stall a month after my surgery

Hi Oct gals and guys,

I just had my six month check- up a little early at five months. All is well and even though I think I'm losing at a pretty slow rate, I've lost 30% of my excess weight post op so far. Counting from the beginning of my journey a year ago, I've lost 75 lbs so far. I think if I hadn't had the RNY, I probably would have gained this winter. It's been so cold and snowy here in Wisconsin, that it's hard to feel motivated to leave the warm spot by the fireplace. I had a glimmer of hope today that spring might arrive eventually. My car interior was warm from sitting in the sun! That hasn't happened for months.

Do you guys ever feel like maybe that's it? I have been fluctuating the same 4 pounds this month, and wondering if I am done. I am eating only healthy stuff and getting the right stuff in. I want to know how the rest of your October's are doing.

I feel like that. I got to 199 lbs and have been here for the last 4, almost 5 weeks. My goal is around 170. I don't think I'll get there.

but surely this can't be it? were only 5-6 months out. My surgeon thinks ill hit 170 easily and will continuing losing up until im 18 mths out. He said I've hit a plateau and its normal.

I know this of course, but after losing very slowly I do second guess this process.

I hear ya Rach. I am hoping to get under 200 soon. I am at 209 pounds and it seems like I am stuck. Most days this doesn't bother me so much, must be a mood thing. I am losing ok overall, not fast, not slow, but I am looking forward to hitting below that 200. For me biggest worry is below 189. 189 seems to be my curse. When I was that weight, I exercised and 5 hours a day ate well (probably did not eat enough for the exercise), but I never lost weight. So slowing down now scares the crap out of me.

I'm in the same boat. I've been between 195-197 the past 3 weeks. My goal is 165. When I had my last dr visit, they said I should be around 180 in April. I've been exercising more and getting my Protein in (80 grams a day). I'm hoping the weight loss picks back up soon...like really really soon!

I've lost 102 lbs since 10/15/13, but I've hit a road block since 2/1/14. Carb cravings something fierce! I've been rotating through the same 3 lbs for the past few weeks. I know I should eat less carbs, but it's hard. My one indulgence most days is a whole grain English muffin with cream cheese.

I'm eating about 3/4 cup of food at meals and staying around 1200 calories.I always get more than 70 grams of Protein and drink at least 64 oz. of fluids a day. How many calories are you guys eating? Oh, and I'm exercising at least 4 days a week and doing strength training 1 - 2 days a week.

Any suggestions on what I should be doing differently from your experience? I have 80 more lbs to lose.

I'm still slowly losing about 1-2 lbs a week. Down 80 from highest weight, 50 post-op. My six month labs were good, except my Protein levels which were low. I've added in a protein snack and I'm trying for 80-90g a day rather than the 60-80 clinic recommended which I had been following. I've added 1-2 strength training sessions per week and 2-3 aerobic workouts. I know I should add more exercise and am looking for classes to add to my routine. Since adding the protein snack, I've been eating around 1100-1200 calories per day. Last night I had my first sip of alcohol post-op at a party at a friend's store on State St. here in Madison, WI. One sip of a strong mixed drink hit me like a Mack truck for about 10 minutes, then it was sober again. But the most wild part of the night was right after the Badgers won against Arizona. Thousands of people (mostly college students) came running down to State St. And congregated in front of the store where the private party I was at -chanting, singing, climbing trees and bus shelters. It was a fantastic celebration. Pics below ( mine are a little blurry.). I added a professional photo, too. The store where the party was has the orange awning.

Here's the professional photo I tried to include in the post above. I should also add that I met the store owner through a weight loss support group and online, so I never in a million years would have been on State St, nor would I have even watched a portion of the basketball game pre-op.

Has anyone else experienced dumping yet? I dumped yesterday for the first time. Wow, not something I want to experience again!

At least I now know that it can/will happen if I eat too much sugar/fat. Until yesterday I thought that I might be someone who doesn't dump.

I definitely dump. On sugar. I break out in a sweat, get really hot, feel nauseous abd dizzy and need to lie down in a cold quiet place for about 30 minutes.

Has happened twice. And it has helped me overcome my chocolate addiction.

In pre-op days I would eat a massive block of chocolate every couple of days and a packet of m&ms daily. It was like crack to me. Had no idea how id stop eating it.

I havnt had chocolate in months and could now choose to never eat it again.

I have my 6 month checkup and blood test tomorrow morning. I don't remember anyone telling me not to eat before arriving like they do when you are told to fast prior to blood tests during a physical. Did you eat Breakfast prior to your 6 month blood workup?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
