How much do you really need?

Recommended Posts

So I am a huge pre-planner and like to list out what I need to buy for how much and how many in advance.

I have watched videos for the last week but I seem to run into a wall of 'how do you really need'

For instance, how many cans and cartoons and boxes of Jello, pudding, Soup, and broth do you need for a 1-3 week liquid diet?

Lets says you buy a Protein shake that has 27 servings - how much are you going to use within a 1-3 week period?

Thanks so much for your feedback!

Have you met your surgeon and Nut? They should give you info on this information. I can say that you need 64 oz -80 oz a Protein a day so you can do the math if how many you need a day. But it doesn't have to be from a shake. Getting the exact numbers is not really possible. Every person can tolerate didn't foods at different times. Your taste buds may change also. You can be prepared but not exact.

Not yet they are calling me next week for my first appointment :D overly excited.

They asked me to watch some videos to understand the process some more so I guess I will add this as a question for my appointment too.

Be careful on stocking up on things... you taste may change, things you love before surgery you may hate after. I know my taste changed big time! I would be enough for a week, then you can see what you can tolerate. I bought lots of Jello and never touched the stuff after surgery, I am 17 months post op and the boxes are still in my cabinet !!! The Protein Shakes get pretty nasty after a while too so try a small container first and if you like it then buy the larger. I wasted so much money on buying things then not liking them or your taste changes.... good luck

I've been fortunate as my taste buds didn't change, yet. But I have stayed on Protein since I first had the lapband in 2010. I did this because I don't feel we'll ever be able to get the maximum amount we need to keep muscle mass through the amount of food we eat. That is just my opinion. Right now I know I'm not so try to at least get 60 gms in, but then I'm only three weeks out from surgery. It is also my go to Breakfast when I first get up, I'm never hungry, so the doctor said it will help to start the metabolism since it sleeps when we sleep.< /p>

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
