December Surgeries!?!?!?

Recommended Posts

I start the liquid pre-op diet tomorrow. A little ticked that my doctors office would not ok a small amount of food on Thanksgiving, since I've seen on here that many doctors did ok it. But I bought my Protein Meal Replacements and Vitamins today and had a practice run. I had that dern powder all over me. It was on my pants, keyboard, papers. I'm like no no no this won't work gotta do it at home lol!!!! God bless us everyone!

I actually found a shaker that has a part at the bottom where u put pre measured powder so u just dump it in! It was cheap too. Found that on bjsbariatric.com !

I can understand about being ticked but I'm sure it is is a good choice. I've also been confused on way some surgeon's only require a 3 day or 1 day liquid diet verses my 2 week diet! Lol. But hey just means I'll lose some weight!

Exactly! My wife works closely with medical doctors and she said the liquid diets act to clear the small intestine while shrinking the liver. And even though we'll lose weight as well, like you said, that diet isn't sustainable. Otherwise we'd just go on Liquid Protein diets.

Start my pre-op diet the day before Thanksgiving but I had my Thanksgiving last night so while I am starving to death at least I know that I got to eat Thanksgiving dinner! LOL

Hi, all...any December folks who are Boomer aged? I'd love to find a sleeve buddy that is "more mature"...at least age wise. My date is Dec 10th. Anyone over 50 and close to that date? I'm 66.

I'm a boomer too. My surgery date is 12/10 too. Today I started my liquid Protein pre-op diet.

Are u having the sleeve ?

Funny you asked. I started this with a referral for a sleeve. But there was a miscommunication between my health board and my health maintenance organization, on what theyed actually cover. Since last month I've been changed to roux en y. I hope your referral experience was more straightforward.

Before seeing my surgeon I had discussed the sleeve but the more research I did..I decided for the RNY. Which was good since I recently found out my insurance only covers the RNY and the band. I just asked because someone else had mentioned the sleeve but I was almost positive u were having the RNY. How's the pre op diet going ?

So far so good? I'm surprised how much food is just lying around my home and my work. Up to yesterday, I think that was a big part of my unconscious eating. Now I have to really focus. That is the worst part of this first day.

So hopingnomeds how HARD has it been? Starting my pre op tomorrow night and hoping I don't want to chew my arm off from being hungry.... I know it's not going to be easy but I am hoping after the second day or so it gets better?

This is only my first day! So far I'm not cheating. I'm able to set multiple alarms on my smartphone. So I have a Protein Shake every three hours. I have Clear Liquids in between. I could detail it more, but that might be too boring!

I had my Endoscopy Friday and that went well. According to the GI surgeon my stomach is "amazing". This was my first time being put asleep and power the nurse I'll "either be cranky or really happy after". Unfortunately I was extremely cranky but all the nurses thought I was hilarious (unfortunately they don't let you "try" to put your own IV in ;-)) so they are all excited to come visit me during my hospital stay. Got my final medical clearance from my PCP today. Last nutritionist appointment tomorrow then a final surgeon visit 12/6. No pre-op diets here just nothing heavy the day before! :-) I have exactly 12 days to get a few of my favorite things in. :-)

Before today I was looking at everything I like to eat as a last supper! I hope that when I'm back to regular foods those favorites are still, and I can at least have a half cup portion! ;-)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
