How long were you sore, tired, etc?

Recommended Posts

I am 18 days out from surgery and very sore and tired. It seems like a huge task to do just about anything. I guess I expected to feel much more back to normal by now.

Are you getting all of your Protein and Water in? If you are not, that will cause you to feel worn out. Also not getting you Vitamins in will make you feel worn out. These three things are critical! As for feeling sore, everybody is different, but I was back to work in two weeks and not sore at all, but I was careful. If you are still having pain, I would call your clinic first thing tomorrow. I hope you feel much better soon!

Part of my problem is that I went back to work after a week. I took Friday off because I was so worn out. I also received a 2 unit blood transfusion in the hospital and really have no clue how that could be affecting my body, other than it means I'm alive. I actually had to go into surgery twice and the second time I aspirated vomit and stopped breathing momentarily. I was in the hospital for a week, so I should have expected that recovery would be a little rough. whey Protein isolate was making me really sick. The nutritionist thinks it could be an allergy. Everything I eat is protein, Beans, fish, etc., but I'm sure it's not enough. Vitamins, I do so-so with. Half of the time they make me throw up. They are so disgusting. I've got to find an alternative multi, Calcium and Iron because they all make me sick. The good news is that the foods I've tried don't make me sick at all. I'm doing great on Water, almost 2 liters a day. The hardest part about that is waiting 30 min after eating, but I'm doing it and it's working out for the better. I'm supposed to work tomorrow and seriously considering calling in. Just thinking about it is exhausting.

I'm 4 weeks out and still worn out and tired but I had emergency back surgery 2 weeks after my gastric bypass so I'm trying to recover from 2 surgeries. It's super hard and exhausting but I'm sure it will get better for us.

I had no problem with surgery and went back to work after two weeks and I was VERY tired and sore. I get all my Protein and Water in but my body just went through a big change. I am almost 6 weeks out and I feel great - my energy is up and no pain!! The pain lasted about a month - I would say pulls an pings not really pain. I returned to my exercise of choice Zumba last week. So hang in there your energy will come back!!!

I know that different clinics have different requirements, but I take Flinstones Complete chewables. One in the am, one in the pm. Very easy to take. For calcium, I am taking Celebrate Calium Citrate soft chews, chocolate flavor. I get 2 in the am and 2 in the pm. They are my treat for the day! They are expensive though. I sure hope you are feeling better!!

I hear you I was under for 5 hours and then had another surgery 2 weeks later and was under 2 hours. I can't believe how weak I am. Was not expecting the weakness!

I'm so sorry u had to go back under. I think that does something too a person being under that long. But hopefully it won't be to long that we get a little energy.

I hear ppl saying 2 wks n they were back to work. I thought wow that's good if they can do it. :)

I was sore for a good month. Liquid pain meds helped a lot with taming the pain.

Tired, oh yeah. Still exhausted and without energy even now at 3 months out.

Thanks to everyone for commenting and sharing your experiences. My soreness has improved greatly with a few days of complete rest. The tiredness actually worsened to the point that I decided to call my surgeon's office. They said that how I'm feeling is within normal limits. They referred to it as Hibernation Syndrome and told me that I basically have to wait it out. My body is trying to hibernate for survival because it's in starvation mode. At some point, it will decide to use fat stores (and my poor muscles, since I can't seem to get enough protein) for energy and I'll start feeling more energetic. My surgery was 21 days ago and I'm down 31 pounds, so no complaints in that department!

I was sore for several weeks - it was mainly the drain.

I get very emotional some days because I just want to feel normal. My incision on the left is really the only one that hurts still. Today I bent over, I swear it l felt something ripped.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
