I don't advertise it, but if someone asks, I'm completely honest about it. I figure there's no sense in hiding it and maybe someone will ask who's interested in getting it done themselves. Never know who you might be helping when your honest.

I lied because I knew I wouldn't be allowed the time off. But that's only because my office completely doesn't care about their employees. I'm not there anymore by the way! I've told everyone at my new job and people are incredibly supportive.

I'm not totally sure but if you are using FMLA, which falls under federal guidelines, and of course this is a medical issue do believe your HR has to protect your privacy regarding any health issues. So if they are the only ones that know about your leave and what is for and it gets leaked, they could be in a world of hurt if you wanted to push it. I do know where I work they cannot say anything more than you are ill and I'm not sure they can even say that. But they do go that far.

I agree. The info has to remain confidential. If not I would talk to an attorney. Share what u want to share or don't share at all. Some people r so judgmental and discouraging. Best Wishes!
