    Hair Loss!

The fact that we lose hair now is an effect of what happened to nutrition (mainly protein) intake around the surgery time. If you'll amp your proteins up, it will get better but in about 2-3 months and there's no immediate cure. I am losing hair like crazy and was told that the peek is around 4 months post op, then it gets better. It would make sense, because after the surgery we don't take enough protein, vitamins or minerals...

    Horror stories?!?

Actually, this is good call; it actually may happen if you are not careful what you eat, have bad case of dumping and won't make it to the restroom. I am always super careful what I eat and never experiment if I'm not home.

    Smoking and Gastric Bypass

Oh yeah, chantix made me nuts as well! I was smoking for about 20 years and quit cold turkey about 1.5 weeks prior the surgery. I tried quitting before but I could never make it longer than 6 months. My doctor have me huge motivation to keep myself from smoking - he always tests for nicotine and would not perform the surgery if you tested positive on the procedure day. After the surgery I had cravings, but I figured I don't want to waste all that effort and start again... I think smoking makes you higher risk for ulcers as well, no? Anyway... I'd highly suggest ecigarettes. They were a lifesaver in the past and you can get nicotine free liquid for it... I know this is sooo hard...
  9. I get them at Whole foods but I think you can buy similar stuff at super target or any other grocery store
  10. I am not an expert to comment on nutritional disadvantages, but I do have occasional chip or pretzel thin and have no issues with them. Some brand (sorry forgot which one) black bean chips have 5g of protein per serving and pretty low carbs, so it is not as bad as potato chips... Not sure if you'd be able to eat the whole serving though

    rny / sleeve

Don't worry, I too believe RNY is the best choice. You are right about the studies and take into account that some people just don't feel comfortable with all the rearrangements done to their intestines, so they pick sleeve or least invasive band.

    My body is protesting....

Agree... Plus remember when you drink big gulps or use straw, you are swallowing lots of air too... This may make gas pains worse...

No need to throw F bombs though.

    Did anybody else use gas-x

I think majority of your gas pains are the kind gasx will not help with. During the surgery they pump your abdominal cavity with CO2 and this is the pain you are experiencing... Walking will help, you have my word for it. I was using gasx for few days after the surgery, but my doc said its pointless. The piping needs to adjust itself...
  19. You should probably stick to your surgeon recommendations and don't experiment with food, especially in this early stage. You can make yourself sick your stomach is still healing and you may not have satiety feeling until few months after the surgery. I am 3 months out and just started to feel full recently... Don't jeopardize the effort and the pain you went through...
  20. I had 3 week stall, like majority of people. Your body says " what the heck" and going on strike I am slow loser and I stall every other week for a week. Everybody is different, but remember that this too, shall pass. You'll start losing again!
  21. Good luck to both of you! Hope your daughter gets her approval soon!
