Why are everyone's stats for a normal day... Calories, carbs, and protein... I'm trying to god the delicate balance. I can't get down the Protein Shakes anymore and they're all so many carbs and calories. Even the low cal ones. I'd rather eat my Protein than drink it.

I maintain a food log so I can track my numbers very closely.

1640 AVERAGE daily calories - some days I'm over and some I'm under and both are fine. My goal is always to hit the average (on a weekly basis).

Carbs/Fat/Protein = 40%/30%/30% (again an AVERAGE) and I hit that very close on a weekly basis.

Food is always the best source for Protein (and just about everything else including vitamins) as long as you can meet the protein requirement from your doctor. As noted above, my surgeon requires 100g a day. I've had a 35g Protein Shake for Breakfast every day for close to two years. There have been exceptions but as a general rule, I found it very difficult to hit that 100g number with food alone and still maintain my calorie, carbs and fat goals. The daily shake makes it relatively easy.

Everyone please note that I am not a June post-op - Oct 20th I'll be two years post-op.

I'm almost 5 weeks out and here is my typical day:

Protein: I aim for 70g

Calories: between 500-700 depending on the day (I'm trying to stay closer to 700 because at 500 I was stalling and upping the calories has helped)

Carbs: between 35-45g I don't really track this consciously because I'm so focused on protein that I'm eating very little carbs.

I finally found a decent Protein Shake. It is gold standard from GNC. It isn't chalky and gross!

Roughly

900 on calories

40 - 50 on total carbs

90 on protien

Im still having an issue balancing solid foods. any starch sits very heavy with me. so im getting better but need to do a better job of measuring.

this morning went to a local deli had 3 bites of my eggs a bite of dry whole wheat toast. and was full to the point i needed to.get rid of some( 2 hours later) was able to get in half a protien bar..... this is the toughest part so far i eat nothing solid but when i do it causes me issues 15 % of the time. im loosing weight and im happy with that! but i need to get some sort of menu i can work with! this hit or miss introducing new foods to le pouch is for the birds....

I keep trying to tell myself I didn't gain it over night and won't lose it over night. I'm 7.5 weeks out and down 31-32 lbs.

I'm usually 700-900 calories. 70g protein. 40g carbs. Some days I'm higher on carbs or protein but I would call these average for me. Only thing my surgeon stressed is the 65+ protein.

I am having the same issues with food. With VERY little exception everything that requires chewing makes me nauseated. I have no problem with my Protein Shakes or Greek yogurt. I am still not able to eat anymore than about 1.5 oz at a time on a good day. I'm not really sure how much it should be at this point but reading posts I feel like it should be a little more than that. My calories are rarely more than 500 a day but I do manage to get at least 60 g of Protein.

There is no such thing as "normal weight loss". Comparing your weight loss to someone else's weight loss is always a bad idea. The fact that your weight loss is different from mine (or anyone else's) means absolutely nothing. There are simply too many variables.

Focus on following the protocol as closely as you possibly can, maintain a food log, stay active and stay away from the scales for at least a week at a time and two would be even better. You're gonna love the new you!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
