I walk at least once a day and I try to go at least a mile at this stage (15 days out). I'm really not feeling much abdominal pain at this point, so I need to start pushing myself a little more. Wish the weather would stay cool. It's hard to want to walk when it's so muggy.

How far are people walking and how often?

Mileand a half everyday. I'm going to bump it up to two miles after the weekend. And every other day I do a little bit of weight lifting.

Not every surgeon uses staples. Mine doesn't. He used glue which is nice because when the incisions heal the glue comes right off.

Could be the pain meds..ask what they are giving you..

Thanks Cristiblu! It turns out its an allergic reaction to some topical items they used for surgery...they think...so I'm still itching & it's spreading...start steroids tomorrow

My incisions on my belly were glued instead of stapled... It's the couple holes they open on your stomach to get inside...

How far are people walking and how often?

I am doing two long walks a day - about 20 minute walks, but long for me! I am 8 days post-op.

They still have to cut you even tho it is laprascopic. 5-6 half to one inch incisions. That is what is glued or stapled after. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
