Weight loss has STOPPED

Recommended Posts

My RNY was May 9 and I lost 23 lbs pretty fast. I'll admit I haven't started working out since this week and I haven't been great with my Water intake until this week but I'm telling you: the scale will not MOVE!!!! I know about stalls but this soon after surgery? I'm 4 weeks out...isn't that soon????

It appears the majority of us hit a wall about 3 weeks out....take a deep breath and relax, do what your doctor says, give your body a chance to freak out and recover and it WILL happen....20+ pounds in 4 weeks is fabulous!!!!!!

Thank you!!! I'm focusing on improving my Protein intake, Water, etc. and I keep reminding myself that this would have never been possible without RNY.

That's all you can do. I know it's frustrating but if you're eating right and exercising, it WILL come. There's 3500 calories in a pound. The average 5'6 woman needs about 1800-2200 calories a day to maintain weigh. If you're eating 1000 a day and exercising, eventually you will lose weight but it does take a while for your body to adapt to it and decide you're not starving to death!! From week 4 til week 8 I lost 2 pounds....TWO!!!! Exercising 3-4 days a week, eating 800 calories a day, meeting my Protein and Water requirements and I lost 2 pounds in a month....that's when I decided to stop obsessing or I'd stress myself out like crazy. I'm almost 4 months out and 43 pounds down...I'm not breaking speed records but its coming off and I feel great. I'll take slow and steady as long as I get to keep feeling good. I can eat virtually anything (in small amounts), I've yet to meet a food that caused me pain. I have dumped a time or two but no pain.

Thank you! See, I need to keep track of my cals, too. I have a new goal everyday. Hit my Water goals, hit my Protein goals, workout, etc. but it seems like I focus on one thing and I lose focus of others! My nurse tells me to focus on protein intake, water intake, and working out. I'm really trying not to be a slave to the scale and I know it has to stop every once in awhile or we'd all be like Stephen King's book "Thinner", lol. It's just hard because I dropped SO fast at first!!!

Thank you. That IS great. Except we're taking my husband a ex-wife to court sometime this summer. She's 51 and I'm 36 and she called me a fat ass because he filed a motion for child support reduction and thought it was my idea (thing is, she filed for a review of child support and our attorney discovered he pays 3x what he should pay due to error) and anytime she emails him (he ignores all of them per attorney instruction) she refers to his fat bitch of a wife. This is SO petty but I'd love to show up at least thin enough to wear she could see the difference. Especially since at the first court appearance, she yelled "fat pig!" across the parking lot and his daughter chimed in. (Needless to say there are some major issues in that family). But can you see why I want my weight loss to be noticeable? LOL

LOL, I know it. I've never in my LIFE called someone evil. But on twitter, his daughter said that her mom offered to buy her a newer car if she told the court that he touched her when she was young. She did, and the judge shut her down. And she hasn't worked one day since they divorced in 2003. Meanwhile, he's paid over $100K in child support alone, not to mention uninsured medicals, which she takes both kids to the dr just to get at him. So yeah, I want to be his hot, young wife. :)

You said you didn't get all Water in this week. From personal experience I can tell you the weeks I get it all in, I lose. The ones I don't, loss is very minimal if any at all. Get your water/tea/ etc in. Crystal Light is a life saver.

I feel you on that. I am obsessed with the scale but trying to break the habit and just weigh in once a week. I notice when I don't lose for a few days it messes with my emotions. So I think I will be better off sticking to once a week.

I'm sure I should do that, too. And I'm coming up on my period so surely that has some effect also. I guess I just got spoiled when the weight came off so fast!

All normal... keep focused and #1 priority should be to get your Water and Protein in on a daily basis. Surgery is only a tool to lose weight to be successful you also have to do your part by exercising. Get your heart rate pumping and you will lose quickly. Stay focused and follow your plan and the weight will come off with the three key thing... PROTEIN/WATER, EXERCISE and Portion Control. If you do all of them there will be success no matter what :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
