Had surgery on Monday 4/29

Recommended Posts

Well, I had my RNY surgery on Monday, 4/29/13. I did my research and was ready to go. I had no idea how poorly I would feel afterwards. Five days in the hospital. Had RNY, hiatal hernia repair, inguinal hernia repair, bowel resection, and GB removal. Needless to say, everything other than the RNY was a surprise to me. The five days in the hospital were very hard due to pain and lack of sleep to to constant interruptions. So glad to be home and in my own bed. Slept 5 hours last night, awoke to a lot of pain which was quickly controlled with Tylenol with codeine. It took 4 days for the barium swallow to go through, so I've only been sipping liquids since Thursday. Very limited intake...told to sip one ounce every 15 mins. I am hoping that I will start to feel functional soon. I was anticipating returning to work after 2 weeks, but I can't imagine doing that at this time. Will take it one day at a time.

Wow Janice, you really got more than you bargained for! I hope things are going better now that you are home and can rest. Take it easy and give your body the time it needs to heal, it's been through a lot. When you are able, walking helped a lot but don't over do it. I wish you a speedy recovery!!

Thanks alc for your encouragement. I've only been home 24 hours, but I am sick to death of Clear Liquids. I have another week of that to go. Dr. said I may have to go an additional week of clear liquids while everything is healing. It is so strange to eat nothing, while the family sits around eating and snacking. I know this is what I signed up for, but I didn't think I'd be so sick. I hope that each day will show improvement. So far I'm up one pound, but I knew to expect that because of all the IV fluids they gave me in the hospital. I will need to lean on this site, because although my family is supportive, they don't seem to "get it".

Dearest Janice

I am so thinking of you. I also had complications, although different from yours. It feels shit! And one feels emotional as well!

I am 3 weeks post op and I am still struggling. But it does get better.

Just take it one step at a time.

I hate exercise but I have to tell you - the thing that worked the best when I felt like shite, was to walk a bit.

Really really really just trust me on this.

I think it is because of the moving so your plumbing kicks into gear. Also the endorphins that are released makes you feel so good about yourself and you honestly feel better. And the outside air really does wonders.

So whenever I feel terrible I drag myself out of bed and walk around the block - an immediate pick me up! Try it, it really helps!

We will get there, soon.

xxx

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
