Recommended Posts

I'm new here so I'm not quite sure how this works. :) I luv the site!

Does anyone know Protein Shakes that don't taste powdery and that is good to taste?

I would love some input. I'm jus fixing to start my journey. So I'm trying to get myself ready. Thanks in advance for all the help! :)

Protein Shakes in general are gross, I have found that the Isopure Dutch chocolate is tolerable, just my opinion.

UNJURY is not bad at all, I ordered the starter kit first, it comes with many samples and then I ordered larger amounts of my favorites, I buy online. You should try whatever gives you a chance to try samples first.

I will tell you that the Protein Shakes i liked prior to surgery I no longer can tolerate. The two that i use daily are Unjury chicken broth and Syntrax Nectar. You can buy samples at unjury.com and they have other flavors too. I also like Syntrax nectar. I use the kiwi strawberry. I ordered initially from vitalady.com as you can buy individual samples of a variety of different kinds and also other brands. Pre-surgery I liked the milky tasting Protein shakes. I used Atkin's and some of the powders that Walmart carries. Post surgery the milky ones make me nauseated so I can't do them. I could retry them but the thought still makes me feel ill. I usually make my Protein Shake the night before so it is cold. I use a scoop and a half of the Nectar for about 35 grams of protein in about 12 ounces of Water. I like it and use my protein shakes for meals still and am almost 4 months out. I know buy alot of stuff off of Amazon.com but initially didn't want to buy in bulk without sampling first... So good luck

When my husband had surgery, he struggled to find one he could tolerate. He finally found Atkins Advantage (ready to drink). This was on the list approved by our doc. Must specifically be the Advantage line. He loved the strawberry...said it tasted like strawberry quick. There are lots of flavors. Its what I'm using now as well....I'm sick of sweet stuff but I'm doing well with it overall. Hope this helps.

Thank you, yes all of these are helping... Someone else told me Special K has Protein Shakes that were really good too. I do not like milk so I've gotta find something that's not too milky. Plus, I hate chocolate. LOL

So it will have to be strawberry or something fruity maybe.

Im def gonna try some of these suggestions!

The special K Protein drinks don't really have enough Protein. I looked into them. I used to do Atkins but like I said post surgery didn't like them anymore. I would check out vitalady.com she has tons of brands and samples you can try...

I agree. The Atkins were my preference before surgery, but now I gag at the thought. And I bought a BUNCH!!! Big mistake. I need to try the Unjury chicken Soup. I have heard it is really good. I bought Muscle Milk Light, EAS, SlimFast, because they were all pretty good tasting. But post op, they are not as good tasting. So don't buy a lot pre-surgery even if you like them. The bottom shelf of my fridge is still FULL. Thankfully my husband drinks one before he goes to work each day to help me get rid of them.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
