I would talk to your surgeon regarding regular coffee and see what his/her thoughts are. First off initially caffeine is a no no because it is an irritant to your new pouch and is dehydrates. Actually, caffeine can always be considered an irritant to your pouch. I know that my surgeon really doesn't want us to drink caffeine. My thoughts is you need to be far enough post op and getting way over your 64 ounces of liquids a day before even attempting.

I drink only Decaf. I'm 9 months out now and I figured I went that long without caffeine why get addicted to it again. Decaf works just as well in the morning. I started drinking it right after the surgery.

Yeah I think I am going hold off and even before my surgery I winged myself off of caffeine coffee and went to Decaf and its not bad at all, so I guess in due time I will be trying it, but right now holding off! Thanks Ladies for your wisdom :)

I do drink regular coffee (mild and pretty diluted for most people) but I have a pretty strong pouch. I drink Water the rest of the day.

In my book, once I am out of the hospital it says one cup of coffee daily is fine, no cream or sugar obviously.

I've been having a caffeineated latte every morning. Great way to get a cup of milk I me and a little wake up. I was cleared for one or two cups of coffee a day at 2 weeks post surgery.

I drink coffee daily or a tall skinny caramel macchiato no caramel on top hot couple times a week. I have no problems and am allowed by dr but must drink an extra 8oz of Water for every up of coffee. Sounds good enough to me:)

Plus is I get the Protein from the milk and no sugar just enough kick for my long days.

Surgery date 7/25/12

I'm a serious coffee lover and the stronger the better...I take it black. I truly do run on Dunkin! Two large iced coffees per day, every day. I quit it cold turkey about a month ago, in preparation for surgery. I suffered a week of headaches and lethargy but then I was fine. Then something wonderful happened. I have had trouble sleeping for literally YEARS. But I was VERY pleased and surprised to find that now I can sleep all night, without a sleep aid!!! I may not drink coffee ever again...

In some of the preop info I got in my revision class it list's Starbucks as a no no for at least a year! I sooo hate that bc Im a huge fan of their coffee and teas. I even love their Decaf coffee but apparently that's not acceptable either. Anyone else have this?

I can do Decaf and I'm fine with that. Can't do the fake sugar or no sugar though :( I find if I use just a little bit of regular sugar it's ok. Also at work I use the coffeemate powdered Creamer and that's good but if I get coffee at Starbucks I get it with skim. Been finding lately that iced coffee gives me major gas. Haven't noticed it with hot coffee, wonder why that is.

Maybe the straw that you have with the iced coffee? I was told straws bring a lot of air bubbles down with the liquid.

Maybe, but I've drank other things with straws and haven't noticed the gassy feeling. Maybe it's something with the coffee....or maybe I just need to pay more attention lol

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
