April 2013 Post-Op Group

Recommended Posts

Hi. So I've been MIA for a while but I really need some advice/support. I am 4 weeks post op today but had complications and had surgery for a bowel obstruction last week. I needed up staying in the hospital for four days. I ate almost nothing, I still am eating almost nothing and my weight is still higher than it was after the second surgery. I have absolutely no energy, I never want to eat anything, go anywhere, do anything. And without the "huge" weight loss that is expected with the surgery, I regret my decision almost daily. I don't know about anyone else but I feel pretty alone right now....

You are not alone i had the same thing and understand what you mean by the weakness i am 6 weeks post op. I can tell you that as long as you meet your Protein, Vitamin and Iron your strenght will pick up.

I have not been good about taking my Vitamins recently because I hate the taste of the chewable tablets. I bought the women's one a day to try to take instead... it's too big, so I cut it in half, but then the taste of it cut made me throw it back up. What Multivitamin are you guys using? I would prefer one I can just swallow.

Me either, Lou. I am sick of the taste of mine, which I loved before surgery! I still have a two month's supply of Celebrate chewables to get through.

I like my chewable multi Vitamin and my b12...It's the calcium citrate chewables that have me gagging! I got some unflavored Ucal-d Calcium citrate powder to put in my Protein shake...but still have to chew two of these nasty things a day to get in the 1000 mg my nut wants me to get.

I do gummies too although some are higher in sugar than I'd like. I am not a sweet fan and it seems like all I take is artificially flavored fruit this or that. I love my Decaf coffee and still miss my diet pepsi. I've heard we have to do chewables for absorbtion not just size.

I order Bariatric Advantage Calcium citrate chewy bites from www.bariatricadvantage.com they have Carmel, lemon, raspberry and chocolate. They are so so good! My fav is Carmel and lemon and it's like having a piece of candy three to four times a day. I even shared them with the girls in my office who are not bypass patients and they all ordered some with me. Their price is really reasonable too!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
