Is there anyone on here from Nebraska? I live in Gretna and go to the UNMC (Omaha) support group meetings the first monday of the month. Would love "meet" someone here from anywhere in Nebraska?

Hi, I'm in Lincoln, and am considering lapband. I'm feeling very unsure about it, and don't know what it will take to make up my mind for sure. I'm just beginning to hear some negative things about it, so I'm more uncertain now then ever!

I live in Omaha, and had my band placed November 14th, (in Mexico). My UHC policy is excellent, but specifically excludes WLS. Being self-pay, I sought out the affordable opton for myself.

I was surprised to learn Omaha has a support group! All band patients? Or a mix?

Good to find a fellow Nebraskan.

Greg

Hi Greg,

Sorry, I haven't been checking this thread because it seemed that I was the only one who did (LOL)

The support group is at UNMC on 42 & Dewey on the first Monday of the month. They have changed it up in the last two months because not many people were coming and now it is for any type of WLS. It is from 6-7:30pm. The first part of the meeting there is a professional person who will come and discuss issues faceing all WLS patients and will answer questions. The last half is for general support. We also have a yahoo group. Look for UNMC Bariatric Surgery Support Group at yahoo group. We would love to have a new "face" to talk to.

Lauraj,

With any surgery comes risks. I had my placed on March 20, 2007 at UNMC and was up and walking around that night. Granted I am only 2 weeks post op, I would still do it all over again. Recovery was nothing. I only took Tues to Fri off work. Now its like it never happened. Can't feel anything unless I gulp instead of sip or take too large of a spoonful of creamed Soup. Then it is just a twing in the middle of my chest area.

Keep reading and good luck.

Hey Cutie,

Where did you get banded? And when are the support groups held at?

It is nice to see that there are a few of us Neb people here.

Hey there to all you Huskers! I’m living in Virginia now, but spent 8 years (on & off) in the Offutt AFB/Bellevue area as a kid. My husband’s family still lives there. I get a kick out of seeing y’all post…like old home week even though I don’t know any of you! I just wanted to say HI and wish you all well! Good luck with your Bands.

Well, I am from Lincoln also. I was banded on Tuesday, April 3rd and so far, everything has been fine. I am looking forward to the support meetings at St. Elizabeth. My husband was banded on the same day as I was. We figured that it would be good to have it done at the same time. We are the first husband and wife team to have our bands done within hours of each other. It will be nice to meet others from Nebraska, too.

Lilthsu,

Congrats to you and your husband. How is everything going for you both? Did you get to share a recovery room? I think it is cool that you are both doing this together. I hope you husband isn't anything like my husband, just like a small child with an ochie. LOL

Oh, we are doing great. My husband is of the mind set that you need to get moving as soon as you can. He rarely complains about pain, although he really misses the food. I fixed my 19 year old son a barbeque pork sandwich and I could see my husband just salivating:hungry:. He is looking forward to having more choices. This first 2 weeks will be the hardest.

It is great to hear from someone in Nebraska. We plan to attend the post op meeting. I believe it is this Thursday at St. Elizabeth. I am looking SO forward to it. Thanks for replying.....I am very new at this.

Hi fellow Nebraskans!

I'm from Minden/Kearney/Hastings area. I am hoping to get banded this fall. I have to bring it up with my GP and such yet, but that is this month.

I have a question. I hope someone can answer for me!

I have medicaid coverage and from what I have found they will cover the band HOWEVER it has to be an "approved" doctor (they have chosen). At this point I only see the doctor in Scottsbluff being the one approved. Are any of the ones in Lincoln or Omaha approved? It is like double the distance for me to go to Scottsbluff instead of Lincoln/Omaha and with four kids still at home (though all teenagers) I don't want to have to spend LOTS of time on the road (though will if I don't have a choice, I want this BADLY!)

Thanks so much! Also I'd love to hear more about the doctors and the requirements they have and the procedure itself. :( Thanks so much!

Laurie

You can check with UNMC about Dr McBride. I am not sure if she is "approved". She even has the band. I think that medicaid also wants proof of 6mo to 1 year of medically supervised diet. Also, don't forget to right down any, and I do mean ANY medical problem that you have that might be from being overweight.

I will to be at the Kearney Expo on May 11 & 12 for work. Do you have any kids that might be coming to that?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
