March Surgery Dates

Recommended Posts

Good luck tomorrow. Ironically' date=' I'm more nervous about this part than the surgery! Lol I'm afraid ill start gagging- I have a very sensitive gag reflex!![/quote']

Thank you. I was like you and more nervous about the EGD for the same reason. My fears were calmed when I had several coworkers tell me it was a piece of cake and you are just asleep through it. Good luck with yours too! :-)

My surgery date is 3-12-13. Everything is complete and I had my preop labs today. I am so excited but I am also fearful!! I have not even told my children I am having the surgery and I don't think I will until post op. I know I would get opposition from them so I choose to not tell anyone and that is why I sought out this forum, for support, encouragement and someone to talk to that knows exactly what I am feeling and then I hope to help others in the same way.

I start my pre op diet tomorrow! Time is flying by. Surgery coming up on the 12th.

Good luck on the diet! I start mine on Friday. I am lucky that it is not all liquid, just have to stay under 1000 calories daily.

So I called my doctor yesterday to ask about my preop liquid diet. I was told to lose 10lbs and do the liquid diet to shrink my liver. They were very vague when I was asking what I could have (they told me to replace two meals with shakes and have a reasonable lunch or dinner).

I told them I didn't get the brand of Protein Drink they suggested and they said that was okay as long as I was using something that had 60 grams of Protein. They never mentioned how many carbs I was supposed to be taking in.

Yesterday was my first full day on the diet. I skipped breakfast' date=' had a Protein Shake for lunch (Premier brand from Sam's...liked the taste), a Protein Bar for a snack mid afternoon and then chicken breast, green Beans and a salad for dinner. Total of about 1000 calories, 63 grams carbs and 122 grams Proteins. Does that sound about right?? I need some help on this.[/quote']

I also have to stay under 1000 calories and consume 40-60 grams of Protein. However they want me to stay low carb. Most (not all) Protein Bars are high in carbs. The only low carb ones I have had before are the Atkins. I see quite a few people comment on the good taste of the Premier shakes...are they chalky tasting at all?

Me too. It makes it easier than the liquid diets that many have to do. Good luck to all :-)

Hi folks' date=' first post here. I have a surgery date of March 22, one week after my 52 birthday, which means for my birthday I get to have a chocolate Optifast shake, yeah!!

Truth be told I'm looking forward to this though there is a lifetime of work ahead of me.[/quote']

Welcome I also have surgery on the 22nd. Which is my birthday so while there will not be a special meal or cake and ice cream. This is the best present I could get for myself and family. So enjoy your shake because it will lead to a wonderful gift.

Glad you're here. Everyone needs support and encouragement and there is Always Someone online here! :) but maybe you should give your kids a call the day before surgery and say something like hi, btw I'm having some surgery tomorrow. Talk to you after it's done.…? LoL

I started on page one of this thread, and I was surprised how many people had fallen off this list here and there. I'm so sorry. I don't know how that's happened, but I've tried my best to include EVERYONE, even those who don't have a date yet. So if you don't see your name let me know, if you have a date change, I'll change it on the list. No problem!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
