March Surgery Dates

Recommended Posts

12 more days until surgery(3/5) and I'm on my 3rd day of Optfast shakes, they have become tolerable, I have no choice anyways and I'm drinking plenty of water(ocean spray). I have lost a total of 7lbs. I know it's only Water weight but I'll take anything!

Did my pre-op blood work and ekg yesterday, hoping everything comes out ok, especially thyroid levels.

Getting a little more nervous as the days pass by and surgery gets closer.

Thats awesome Roxy!! Keep up the good work! Its going to pay off! I start my liquid diet March 6th!!

That would make me very happy! Gonna try it!!!!!!!

It tasted ok. Mixed it with unsweetened tea. May be able to add truvia or stevia to it to sweeten it if u want. Did everything in a shaker bottle and wiped off the foam that appeared on top...

Hey surgery buddy! I'm March 5th as well. Started liquid diet Tuesday and trying so hard to get to "tolerable" on the shakes. Have you modified them at all to make it easier to drink?

Does anyone know if we can keep the drinks in the fridge?

Yup!

I'm new to the forums, but I have a surgery date set for March 8. Like everyone else, nervous, but excited at the same time. I look forward to going through the process with people who are going through it too.

For all the people that have told you the terrible gastric stories about WLS and how people gain it back-- Both my sister and my father have had the RNY and both Are doing fabulous. My sister is a size 4 (baggy) and lives a normal life with small food quantities. My father was dying from congestive heart failure, but told him this surgery might save his life, or at least buy him some time. My sister is 6 years post op and my dad is 4! My dad is now hiking and cycling!

I have liked them all. I am awaiting discharge so I don't have the brands with me at the moment, but there were coffees and hot chocolates, puddings, and fruit flavors. I got some of the Syntrax samples from the Vitamin Shoppe, but even more online. I don't know if you can buy Unjury in stores or not?

Hey fellow Marchers! So i've decided that although my surgeon is not requiring me to do a pre-op diet I'm going to do one anyway. I just don't think the way I have been eating for the last week or so is what he had in mind ( I need some structure). I am a month out and it looks like some of you did a low carb for a couple of weeks and then shakes for the last two weeks. Is the low carb diet like Atkins where watching fat is not so much an issue but carbs are below 20g a day or is more like south beach with lean Proteins, veggies, and low-glycemic fruit like berries? Anyway, hoping some of you can help give me some direction here so I can get myself on track. Surgery is on the 21st so I am a month out now.

How is ur dad's heart now?

HW 245; CW pre-op: 229; Surg Date: 2/26/13

He is doing great! He checks in with the cardiologist, but they are amazed at how well he is functioning now. He has more heart function than before the surgery.

Hello guys!!! I am having surgery 3/04.. I am on day 5 of pre-op liquid diet!! This is hard???? But I have not cheated.... I'm too afraid it will not be a good idea... But during pre-op education class a man scheduled for 02/11 asked could he eat a salad, and they told him he could eat one!!!!! Two days before surgery and the gave him a prescription to I guess eliminate it....

My surgeon is not requiring me to be on a liquid diet before surgery; just a low fat diet the week before surgery. Then I have to fast 12 hours before surgery. I'm wondering why I don't, but so many of you do????

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
