Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

:update: Just a little update on me I'm down to 232 from 253 and have lost 12 inches. I have been going to the hospital's fitness center for a week now and I'm walking 2.5 to 3 miles a day which takes an hour. I've been fussing with the same 2#'s up one day and down the next. Whatever!!!

I go in for my first fill on Tuesday the 15th and I'm a little nervous about that. :) I weight heavier at the Dr.'s office.

Congrats :clap2: to everyone on your successes. (We have no failures! just trials.)

Judy - you are right. I have just been obsessed with that stupid scale for so many years that it is a hard habbit to break.

Kitty - you crack me up! but thank you. I hold in my heart that the right thing is there and I need to do 1 thing at a time right now, and finish school it is!

Ms Jen - congrats and I wish i could have that Whatever attitude, we are in the same place, high in Jan was 278, day of surgery was 258 and now down to 233. to look at it that way I guess does sound more impressive, stupid numbers!

lauraj - it is important to see yourself. Make sure your arms are under your shoulders, and hips are over your knees. Just being on all fours isn't all that comfortable, my wrists get tired. Anyway, flat back, no arch either way. Pull stomach in as tight as you can for ten seconds, then relax. Make sure each time you breathe out you suck in the gut harder. But make sure you breathe! I tend to hold my breath with doesn't help.

Let me know if it helped you. REally tight!!!!

Yes Terri...we're living in an atmosphere you could cut with a knife at the moment..I am sad about it...but what can I do?

We're only married 2 years and I get scared that we're having difficulty so early in!!

I dunno what to do, but I'll see how the rest of today goes

:help:Hello everyone. I have probably a silly question. But I jsut got my first fill last week. My question is that I fill like that I have a good restriction. But I am not sure. Can anyone tell me if it is normal to have a first fill and it atomaticaly work for you. Like when I eat I can still eat just fine. But if I meat it hurts a little. I really need some good advice. As I do not know to get another fill or if this is working. I have not thrown up. Thank you for your time Stacey:funscale:

Stacey- you sound like me...so I think it's just a little too early to tell until you see whether or not you're going to loose weight with this much restriction. You DO want to eat normally, just not too hungry between meals or eating a whole lot at each sitting. So just enjoy it and obey the rules and see how you do in the next 3-4 weeks. If you lose weight, why get another fill?

lctexas- since we are all recently banded and mostly not filled, this question would be better asked out in the 'fills' topic, so experienced banders can answer :)

Good Morning, Fellow Violets..

Today was weighin day and woooo hooooo I lost 4# this week. Just one pound shy of another charm! I'm very pleased and excited about the weight loss and so looking forward to DH getting banded in just 9 more days!! We got a lot done in the backyard yesterday and today I'm working on putting mulch in the front yard and planting a few hostas and day lilies.

Time to get ready for church. Everyone have a great day and keep on shrink'n!!!

Hi all my fellow Shrinkers!! I am still at the 30 pound loss, but still droping inches. I am still only eating what my surgeon suggested. I do exercise every day, and walk, but my surgeon told me to exercise, but only NO situps for 6 weeks, which I have not done. I am wondering why these Dr.s are do different as I see lots of yous have been doing situps, and also eating everything????

You and I are in the same boat Margi. I wasn't allowed to do anything but walking until 5 weeks and now I can do Curves and my ab lounger. Also I was on 2 weeks Clear Liquids, 2 weeks full liquids and am now on 4 weeks of soft foods. I will get regular foods at 8 weeks after I see the doc for my first fill.. June 5.

30# is great and you should be proud!!! Each doc is different and that's why we have to be careful to follow OUR doc's rules.

Hang in there, you're doing great!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
