I'm having the EXACT same problem. Heating pad seems to help. I'm thinking muscle but I'm going to ask doctor tomorrow. I hope we feel better soon.

Doctor thinks it's a strained muscle. Poked and prodded on my tummy and back and made me do some leg lifts and all signs point to pulled/strained muscle. He called me in some more pain meds to take at night and told me to call back if not better in 3-4 days.

I'm sure it's possible but I'm currently suffering from a pulled muscle on my left side and it hurts badly. I overdid it the other day doing laundry bending over and picking up the basket and what not.

What if you just sit and let your daughter come sit in your lap?

My doctor only told me nothing more than 5 pounds for a week and than go back to normal. My son is 22 months old and weighs 35 pounds and I've been carrying/picking him up since after the first week. My right side of my stomach gets really bad pain if i move the wrong way or turn over. It's like a intense burning stinging sensation. I assume its my muscle healing. How long till that's gone?

Great idea regarding the NSVs! (what does it stand for?) nice saying versus? lol!

Went back to work this week and I keep hearing how great I look, well rested and like I'm glowing. Everyone keeps saying how clear and nice my skin looks. I think some of my dark spots and malasma has cleared up. YEAH!!! Also, dropping a pant size is a major bonus! Yeah for RNY!!!

Good luck with the CT scan!

ok you almost made me pee myself a little there! i think someone answered that for ya-sorry i didn't explain the whole "NSV=non-scale victory" better.

congrats on returning to work-i'm hoping to soon, it'll be a big NSV for me. but well rested and glowing, PLUS you're down a pant size-whoot whoot! you go girl!

keep em coming :D

This morning I weighed 227. The day of surgery I weighed 237 gained up to 250 in hospital. So basically in two weeks I've only lost 10 lbs or do I say 23? Anyway seems really slow to only lose 10 lbs in first two weeks. I did that before without surgery. It's so hard not to be discouraged or regretful and then add to it my constant nauseous and horrific pain in my left side/back I'm really starting to wonder why the heck I did this. Somebody please remind me.

count every pound!! you lost it right?! :]

you ask why did you do this? i'm sure you lost faster and more on your own, i lost over 80lbs on my own between 2009-2010. but i couldn't keep it off. i didn't medically have the ability to. that was just me. look back at all the changes you have made, all the sacrifices you have made to get this far. it wasn't for nothing, it was for YOU. the most important person in your life. a healthy you can better take care of your boys and family. it's hard right now, and slow going-but you know how to be patient. nothing good ever comes too quickly and without effort, if it did, we wouldn't appreciate it. you're short changing yourself-you have come so far. you can count every ounce and inch lost, extra foot walked, pant size changed-any means neccessary to remind you that you are successful and more than that, WORTH IT! hugs to you, feel better soon! ;)

I didn't count either of my hospital stays. It is very disheartening to lose weight, go in for surgery and gain a lot of weight. I didn't count the Water weight gain from IVs either time into my lose. The day of surgery I weighed 237. That was Dec 15. Now I'm at 201. I've been a slow loser too, I believe. I'm 8 weeks out from RNY w a total of 36lb lose. I went in for second surgery @ 204, gained 14 lbs. so back up to 218. I was so discourage but what could I do but wait for the water weight to come back off and it has.

The numbers on the scale are discouraging. You have to look passed those #s and look at what Smile was talking about and the positive NSV statements. We have to remain positive cuz all negativity ever did for us was help us put on the weight. We all are going to reach stalls but we need to restructure on minds on how to deal w those stalls.

Gen :-) 12/15/12

Surgery was on Jan 14? Are any of you constantly nauseous? It doesn't go away' date=' they want me to get the Protein Shakes in and the 64oz of water... But im feeling so sick its hard to do any of this. will it eventually go away??[/quote']

I was nauseous in the hospital for 3 days. They gave me zofran RX to take home. I was so nauseous every time I ate or drank the first few weeks, that I couldn't keep anything down. Dr told me to use the zofran 3 times a day and it really helped. It allowed me to eat and drink enough to get over the hump and about a week later I didn't need it anymore. The nausea is from the swelling and if you get dehydrated, it gets worse. Good luck ????

been a minute since i've posted-i've been sick (i blame my 16yo for the cold, can't blame her for the confusing pain on my lower right side-might be a hernia from surgery, but we'll find that out during a CT scan tomorrow night). quite honestly, i've been super exhausted just about every day for the last week and i'm tired of it, i want my energy back.

i've seriously missed catching up with all of you although i do read through a lot of posts through the e-mail feed on my phone. it looks like a lot of us are being plagued by the same things, slow weight loss being the front runner.

i decided i'm losing the scale, until i feel like it will have moved significantly...maybe. because i'm sick of letting it dictate my mood for the day. i won't participate in any more weigh ins, i know i've lost weight, inches, i can fit into 5 pairs of jeans i was way too chubby for before surgery, i can wear some XL tops, my hubbys hoodies (that i live in) dwarf me now, and yesterday when i got my monthly massage my massage therapist who didn't know i'd had surgery noticed i'd lost weight-THAT'S good enough for me for right now.

i want to feel good about me, and i want that to translate to all of you. i want to be proud of you and your accomplishments too. please feel free to be excited and announce every victory you notice.

let's start posting our NSV's, i think it will be helpful to us. for those of you who don't know; an NSV is something positive that's not related to the scale moving. it can be someone giving you a compliment on how you look, noticing your own cheek bones, getting on a bicycle for the 1st time in years, walking a mile, getting your wedding ring back on, passing up a bad food without batting an eye, not having to take an obesity related medication you used to have to take, your hubby fitting his arms all the way around you, etc. the list is endless!

i posted some of mine above-my favorite was my compliment from victoria and the fact that i can wear (and zip!) so many pairs of the jeans i used to flow out of! how about you??

This is why I come on here and read posts. You all are so inspiring!! I don't feel so alone on this roller coaster ride. I don't think I have ever been so emotionally and physically up and down in my entire life! Thank you so much for "being there"...even though I don't post that much...I read...and it HELPS!!!!

some of my NSV's...being able to take off my old jeans without unbuttoning them, positive comments from friends and family, being able to put socks on without almost having a coronary, but most of all...my back not hurting as much! woohoooooo!

I know exactly how you feel...I didn't lose anything the first week and I had gained in the hospital as well. It's frustrating..I know..but the weight will come off! I am now down 35 lbs..surgery was Jan. 9th. I also had really bad left side and back pain...took about 3 weeks to go away...the muscles were really sore. I lived with a heating pad!

Just please hang in there....the pain will go away...and the weight will come off...I promise you...just takes time.

Does anybody else get the "caught food" pain a lot? I drink Water sometimes and I get it...am I doing something wrong? Eating too fast, too much, not chewing enough? I thought I was sipping the water...but I don't know...This is making me have a hard time getting in my protein...I am still drinking about 2 Protein Shakes a day. I am about 4 1/2 weeks out...is this normal?

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
