Already feeling discouraged. I started at 244. DOS (1/25/13) I was 237. After all weight gain from air and fluids I was 250 but I have been losing every day since. By my first 1 week post op I was 234 and yesterday I was 229. I was so excited to be in 220s. Getting in fluids and Protein has been difficult. Yesterday was the first day I finally got in all my required fluids and protein. Today the scale still said 229. So basically if I get in everything I'm supposed to I don't lose. I don't think it's a stall seeing how I'm only a week and two days post op. Yesterday I also had some creamy Soups so today I will ONLY do my required protein and fluids without any Soup but that stinks.

I've been moping around about it so hubby trying to give me pep talk about how my body is still trying to heal and I need to focus that and the weight will come off bla bla bla. I know he is right but I just want to lose weight so badly I mean that's why I had this major risky surgery to lose weight. Why is it surprising that I'm obsessed with it?

Anyone else feel like me a week out?

Jessica please don't be discouraged! You are doing wonderful! If u think about it. Since your surgery you have lost 21 pounds. It doesn't matter that some was Water it was still weight in your body that ur body had to work to shed. Just breathe and trust ur husband, yourself and your surgery. Remember this is a marathon not a sprint. Granted it will be a faster marathon but ur still not gonna lose all your weight in 1 month. Your gonna get there just remember that you have to relax a little. Let ur husband give u a hug and maybe get outside and go for a walk if weather permits.

Thanks Teresa. I really don't mean to be a spoiled brat. I just get negative easily lately. I'm going for a walk like you said. It's beautiful outside here. Thanks again.

You are not a spoiled brat!!! I'm proud of you for getting out of ur house for a bit! We all have gone through emotional ups and down in the first few weeks after surgery. Take it easy on yourself! Don't get bogged down with baggage. Just follow ur doctors guidelines and the rest will happen for you! Good luck and God bless!

I don't think there is such a thing as normal with this surgery. I was after you' date=' 1/10/13 and I have lost 21lbs, (5 are pre-op. I don't count down from the Water and air weight from surgery-just the number on my scale the week before surgery to current). Its not a big number, about 5 a week but I'm taking it!

I keep reading about a lot of people having little blips around the 3-4 week mark. When I went in for my staple removal at 2 weeks my NUT said weight loss will significantly slow as it was mostly water, and fat is harder to lose. Most of us newbies have just recently lost our water weight and our bodies are trying to figure out how to handle the next step.

I was advised to do my measurements and only weigh once a week, same time and in the same clothes. I was also told that the further we get out, the more we need to slightly increase our Protein, water and calories because we are becoming more active.

Don't be too hard on yourself-we are all new at this and it's weight we weren't able to shed before. It's working, you've gotten this far right?! ;)[/quote']

Thank you. I just guess I expected more. Guess I caught the blues.

Ok so since I've thrown my scale out I have no idea how much weight I've lost but I did put on a pair of 14 jeans last night that have been sitting on a shelf for months without any struggle!! Something must be happening lol

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
