Surgery was on Jan 14? Are any of you constantly nauseous? It doesn't go away' date=' they want me to get the Protein Shakes in and the 64oz of water... But im feeling so sick its hard to do any of this. will it eventually go away??[/quote']

Protein shakes make me nauseous & anything heavy. The only thing I can stomach so far is Jello, Herb Ox chicken broth & a small container of plain Greek yogurt & twice I had strained Wendy's chili....Everything else, not so good : /

hi all - surgery was Jan 21 and went home that Wed Jan 23! Wahoo!!! However... I'm back in the hospital. They discovered after about two days of being back home in major pain that I have a severe blood clot next to my liver and intestines. It's causing some major pain - really indescribable (sort of like appendicitis multiplied by 100). Anywho, not sure how long I'll be in here. It's been since Sunday AM and no major news to report. Some of the pain meds are working, but I'm NPO other than when I take meds by mouth. They are thinking any stuff going down the intestines are causing problems because the blood isn't moving through quick enough thanks to the blood clot blockage. On blood thinners and hoping that'll help. They keep saying my body needs to heal - that the bypass surgery itself created the clot, but no real medicine or surgery will fix it :( booo... It's painful to say the least. Glad to be alive as my RNY surgeon said they're pretty dangerous, especially since it could kill off my intensities.

Others who experienced blood clots in the abdomen area after surgery? What did you do? Recovery time? Did it adversely impact your loss goals each week? Believe it or not I'm still thinking about weight loss at a time when I should probably be thinking about my overall health... just in that RNY mindset about goals, etc... Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had a blood clot/twist in my small intestine. Very painful. It was found during the swallow test. They did emergency surgery to clear it the following day and things have been great. They won't fix it for you? Mine was unfixable and causing severe vomitting.

No, not constantly nauseous but occasionally. I don't always get in all the Water or the Protein, I just do what I can. Putting the more tart crystal lite (or target and Walmart brand) flavors in my water has really helped me get it in. I can drink at least two of the 16.9oz bottles, plus my shake(s) every day. The lemonade and orange work best for me, and I wasn't big into either of those flavors before. I also like the fruit punch. Hope it gets better soon.

Oh wow! I'm so glad they found it and you're on the mend. The fact that you're so focused will surely help you heal quickly.

I can't give any advice on this at all, but will send positive thoughts and prayers your way.

Ok surgery family; now I need your help again

Oops, wasn't done....

Been having persistent pain thats been getting worse over the last week in my lower right abdomen under the area of one of my incisions. There is a lump under there that's not present where my other 5 incisions are. It's minor until I get up from having sat in one position for too long, laying on my left side unsupported, sitting in the car, walking, etc. I also get back pain after walking about 20-30 minutes. I had to use my scope patch this am so I could take my loratab, which I haven't taken since the 1st week of surgery. I was actually in tears this am after getting up to use the bathroom. I'm going to call the doctors office but am curious if any of you've experienced this.

OK. Gotta vent. My surgery was January 7th. I was doing super good. My first post op doctor appointment is the 5th and I've only lost 29lbs. Is that normal? I feel super frustrated. I expected more from myself. What should I do. I feel maybe the surgery wasn't for me. What if I completely fail. I don't look any different. I'm disappointed in myself.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
