Juicing

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I start pre-op liquid tomorrow and thinking about juicing veggies and some fruits to go along with Protein Powder? Advice, suggestions, and/or considerations? I recognize too much sugar/carbs can come from the fruit so I hope to do this on occasion. Is it worth it? Any fruit/veggies to stay away from? Thanks!

I think juicing pre-op would be ok. I would worry about it post op just because of the sugar content and how important Protein is. I tried googling some info but couldnt really find anything on it. Would be a great question for your NUT. Good luck

Excellent point about post-op and sugar. Was thinking Protein powder combined with kale and other veggies (maybe an orange) might be ok. I'll talk with my nutritionist and doctor...and let ya know :)

I am 2 weeks post op. I saw my doctor today and asked about veggies. He said not until 3 months! Yikes. He sad for now Protein, Protein, protein. I'm craving veggies. I had some avocado yesterday and it was so good... Guess its back to all protein for me. Good luck as you get ready for surgery!

thanks for the heads-up and advice :) just wondering if I could add Protein Powder to the juice (e.g., with kale, tomatoes, lemon). On my pre-post op food list, I'm allowed to have low sodium V8 juice with protein powder. I'll have to ask my doc to see.

What did your doc say? I have been doing great getting in Protein, but still craving veggies. I want the weight to fall off, so I'm all Protein for now.

Bcor,

You have come so far. 150lbs gone! That's amazing! I'm no psychologist, but I'm wondering if there s something going on in your life that has your mind wanting to revert back to your old eating habits. If I were you I would find something active that you love to do... And do it. Walking, biking riding, fencing, basketball, cup stacking?? Anything that you enjoy and keeps you active. You have already done it and you can keep it off!!

I'd avoid any citrus immediately post-op until you get cleared. It's acidic and your stomach needs to heal. Best of luck!

As a licensed therapist I suggest you do seek therapy related to possible food addiction and dealing with underlying emotional issues/ needs that aren't getting met in a healthy weight. Also make an appt with your Surg office and nutritionist so they are aware in case they need to check for complications...

Good luck!!

God bless!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
