Wife doesn't want me to get surgery

Recommended Posts

My wife and daughter are totally against me having RNY surgery. They are giving me no support. They feel I can lose weight on my own. I just wasn't trying all those other times I dieted. I'm still pressing on and doing everything to get the surgery no matter what.

I had a friend get a lap band and he had lost a 100 lbs. I spent about an hour talking to him about it. I went home and asked my wife what she thought. Right away she told me she would support my decsion if I wanted to go ahead with the surgery. Duenoing the workups to the sugery she found people that we knew that had the surgery and hooked me up with them so I cold ask questions. Based on my discusion with those people and my surgeon, Dr Shadle (Sacramento, CA) I had thevertical sleeve sugery.

So my experience is completely the opposite of what you are ging through.

However, hind sight being 20/20 don't let anyone get in your way. I am 3 months post op and have lost 75 lbs, I don't take blood pressure medicine anymore, my jpoints don't hurt and I feel great.

Find a good surgeon to help you decide which proceedurte is right for you and go for it! It is your life and your decision to make.

Good luck

My wife was the one who urged me to undergo this operation and she has been supportive. The only person who has not been supportive has been my mother. She is somewhat dependent on me and is more focused on anything that might interfere with that support.

I wanted to get started in January. Had the first appt scheduled but my wife was very against it so I canceled it. Then I needed a colonoscopy or two and 50 precancerous polyps were removed. Blew through my max out of pocket nuttin flat. Told her its now free and I want to do it. She still thinks one more diet is all I need. But she knows I really want it.

I'm on my first day of liquid diet. My surgery date is nov 4. My wife knows I really want it done and she has come around mostly. She is worried of course but she is ok with it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
