I'm 18 days po and I've started having these sharp pains in my side when I bend a certain way. Now it hurts there when I urinate' date=' laugh, take a deep breath, even stand from sitting. It all started after my last bm. Anyone else have this? I'm thinking of heading to the er later today. I'm so tired of taking pain meds ugh!! Sorry to vent but this really frustrates me![/quote']

It's ok to vent. Many of us have on here. I'm glad your going to have it checked out. I haven't had the pain, sorry you are. I hope it's not serious. Keep us informed. Best wishes.

Girl, I have taken a nap everyday post op! I am not a nap person, but I get worn out. The other day I fell asleep at 2 and woke up when it was dark outside. Your body is running a marathon inside as it heals. Your systems are working crazy hard to heal up all the cutting and stitching inside. Take your nap. I'm sure the fatigue will go as our bodies heal.

I second Snows motion take a nap. take a nap , take a nap. You are still on the mend and rest is an important part of healing. Don't deprive yourself of that.

WIshing you the best.

Me either and I am usually hot hot hot, don't even wear a coat till there is snow on the ground. But now I live in a robe over pajamas or clothes. And today I can't stop shaking. Don't know what is up with that.

Yes. I wear a sweater all the time now and thermostat turned up a couple more degrees. I don't want to get the next heating bill, ugh.

I just had lab work drawn due to me being dehydrated and to make sure that is all it is. I did speak to Dr. He said due to me slowly getting dehydrated that my body is retaining Water, therefore causing "water weight gain." He said what I am going thru about 2 weeks out isn't uncommon. It is my body trying to readjust to its new self. They said that after the 90oz yesterday, my body should start rebounding back. Although he said if come Monday I still don't feel right then I can walk in to see him.

I have been needing to nap in the afternoon. Anyone else getting fatigued like that?

Yes!! I think it was for me the anesthesia wearing off and then I think just the body needing to heal. But I'm 2 weeks post-op and still wanting a nap every afternoon. I'm ok now if I don't get it I just go to bed super early then. So, it did improve for me. :)

Sorry to hear some of our Dec. group has had difficulties, and glad to hear others are on the mend. I've been doing well. Surgery was the 4th and I am finally feeling like "What surgery?" I have to remind myself to eat slowly and chew......because you do reach a point where you forget. I get all of my Protein and Vitamins in but still lack enough fluids needed. I am lucky to average about 40-50 ooz of total Fluid daily. Weight loss has been steady but has slowed (not stalled). I am also able to eat a little more at meals so I expected that to happen. Pain under left ribcage is finally gone and finally feel like I am getting my stamina back. Amazing that I never really feel hungry. Often times, I am reminding myself to eat. That starvation mode can be a real deterrent to losing weight because your body will hold onto calories so it doesn't "starve" which makes it harder to lose. So make sure you nurish often even if it is very little. Remember you need calories to burn calories.

Hey, did you find out what that pain on left side was? It seems like I remember the doc saying something about it but can't remember what. I feel great, except for that spot. Glad you are doing great! Keep it up!

Yes, I did find out why that side is so sore. It is the biggest port that is used for the cutter/stapler and most of the "work" is done in that area. Sometimes a hard ridge will form during the healing but he assured me that it would flatten out. Never thought it would feel better but now, thankfully, it does. Still getting use to my new "norm" and trying to get used to this whole new way of eating. There are times I start serving myself a meal on my plate and heap out my "old" serving. My new pouch says "Whaddya, nuts?" Seriously, have caught myself serving up a pre-surgery "normal" serving and then I just start laughing at myself. I'm telling ya, I have too remind myself that I DID have the bypass because other than my eyes definitely being bigger than my pouch, my only daily reminders are Protein, fluids and Vitamins. The old way I served myself is just out of habit, because I don't even want that amount of food nor feel hungry enough to eat it......yikes, those old habits ARE hard to break.

I've finally broke the dehydration, yes. My skin is better, beats that little pinch test now; pee is clear, feel much better. It only takes me about 80-90 oz of liquids though. Fortunately I still get the Proteins in. Today, 68 Protein and so far 72 liquids. Holy cow, constantly drinking.

So they got you taken care of last night?

I'm thirsty all the time. Do you drink straight Water or add sugar free things to it, crystal light, SF Kool aid singles, etc?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
