Weekly Challenge

Recommended Posts

Hey some of us are challenging each other to eat better, drink our Water, and get in our exercise. This is somewhat like Ediets.com challenges with some variations. Below are the guidelines. NOT RULES!!! There is an added challenge to do a random act of kindness at least once a week but as many as you can get in would be awesome.

1. Log-in daily and give a brief update of your day--meals, water intake, helping others, feelings, etc. Anything you want to share.

2. This Challenge will run Monday through Monday.

3. Weigh in once a week ONLY! Typically on Mondays but only once a week.

The challenge will start tomorrow August 16th and run till the October Bash in Vegas.

Wanna have prizes?

1. Most weight lost

2. Stayed as close to eating properly

3. Most Exercise minutes

4. Most creative with exercise routines

5. Motivation Queen

If you guys think of others then chime in.

By the way, all this is just a suggestion. So, give us some input on the challenges.

YES, NO, YOU ARE NUTS!

Best of luck to all participants!

Good Morning

This is a great idea..I just got off the scale and posted on the weekly scale challenge a loss of a 1.5 lbs. Not bad since I'm in full swing with my period and feel like a bloated pig right now but I know it is from all of the exercise I have did last week. I really kicked my exercise in to full gear last week.

I'm all up for this challenge.

My starting weight is 224

Today I will drink all of my Water, eat healthy with good food choices and no snacking and EXERCISE (water aerobics/walk) 45min-60min

Best of luck to everyone else. I wish you all success!!

Great idea Penni! Journaling food has a bad affect on me... for some reason it brings back the old days of "dieting"... BUT... I really would like to be accountable for activity/exercise. I don't usually have a problem getting Water in now that I don't drink diet pop anymore... my major problem is exercise and Portion Control. Sooooo...

I will post daily on exercise... starting with today. Hopefully that will get my butt moving! I won't measure or count calories... but I will keep track of good food choices and bad ones and will try to curb the carbs and evening snacking.

I go in for my first fill August 27th... hopefully that will help me with hunger and portion control. Until then... I need to move it to lose it!

Looking forward to kicking butt this week!

Darcy

This sounds like a great idea since I need to be accountable to someone besides myself. (I know some banders personally that still go to WW just to be accountable to someone even though they can't eat the amounts a regular WW should eat.) I have been up and down a pound for way over a month. Only lost 2 pounds since my last fill 2 months ago. I have been making a lot of bad choices. Sept. 2 will be my bandaversary and I hope I will at least be at 52 pounds by then. I am at 50 1/2 today yesterday 51 1/2. There's that da*n pound again. I am going on the 31st for a video esophagram and possible fill. I am also afraid if I get a really good restriction I will be pissed. I like being able to "get around the band" and eat more then I should by drinking while I eat when I go out to dinner. Any one else here fighting mentally with the band like I am? Sorry for the long post.

PS. I did join the gym and think I have gained some muscle so I'm not sure if that is the reason for not losing. I also see a difference in my clothes but I do want to see a difference in the my scale.< /p>

How about some males jumping in on this?

WOO HOO Michelle!!!! COngratulations on the weight-loss! I bet the Water aerobics are building muscles everywhere and boosting the metabolism even more!!! WTG!

Alex... I think this challenge could be about ANYTHING that you might want to do in your life. Shoot... it could be about finding something positive to say about yourself everyday???? Come on girl... ya know we love ya... and now that you posted... well... I'm afraid we can't let you leave.

Chris... I'm sorry about the battle you are having with your band... I am newly banded so I may not be a huge help but I hope that with all of posting daily we can pass on a little group energy to help you out.

Well... I am pretty fricking tickled with myself right now! I hauled my butt down to the basement... stretched... did 40 ab crunches (ouch) and 10 modified pushups and plopped my hiney on the treadmill for 32 minutes and 1.75 miles! YAY! I feel awesome and sweaty and stinky! I feel so wonderful after exercise... makes me wonder why I avoid it???? ANyhoo... my plan is to do free weights and floor exercises three times a week and alternate walking/cardio 3x a week. One day of rest???? We'll see! In the meantime am going to watch for a used home gym as I am just not very good at exercising in front of people.

See ya'll tomorrow!

I vote no prizes, just a big pat on the back from our fellow bandsters. Plus, since I can't make it to Vegas, you'd have to send my prize by UPS. Being the considerate person that I am, I'm just helping you save your $$ for the shipping charges. I know gold bricks are heavy!

Hmm, did I actually start this? I just wanted a one day challenge to get back on track. So I'll stick to my original challenge, which Michelle and Penni accepted, of exercising, a Protein shake, a decent lunch and a small dinner.

So far this damn challenge managed to get my butt out of bed. If I didn't challenge you guys, I would have kept laying there. But I walked my dogs to the park and back (30 min today) then did some arms on my Total Gym.

Then I had my low cal Protein Shake (didn't add chocolate syrup.)

I'm behind on my Water, but the day is young. I brought a can of tuna for lunch, plain.

So far, so good.

Private Marie reporting for duty...

Breakfast - one egg, one vegetable sausage patty

lunch - tuna salad, 2 low-fat Ritz crackers

dinner - grilled pork chop (1/2), steamed broccoli/carrots, fat-free choc. pudding

Exercise - 11 miles bicycling (9 to 11 mph)

Good Deed - took ice Water to Water dept. crew digging up my back yard

Water - did o.k., but need to do better

This little challenge kept me from grazing today!

One day down, and six more to go.

I vote to keep the prizes and Marie I'll happily ship yours if you win. Bummed you won't be there.

I am joining THIS challenge.

food today:

1 egg, 1 vegetarian sausage (morning star)

1 24 oz. iced white chocolate mocha with carmel (all sugar free)

1 chicken soft taco made fresco style from taco bell

1 cup of arm roast mixed in gravy and 1 sauted small zuchini

5 hersheys minatures

Having a tough time getting all my Water in but have recently discovered getting kool-aid mix and making it with splenda. Very yummy and no sugar or calories. Not sure if this really replaces Water or not but it helps me get more fluids in. Not sure if I'll get on here to do this daily. I just started another grueling 4 weeks of my last chemistry class ever but I'll try to often. I only weigh once a week already on wednesdays and no fill yet and none planned. Happened to glance at my weight while getting a depo shot today and I had lost 1.1 lbs since last wednesday when I had that plateau week but since today isn't my official weigh in day, I am will wait for the official scale reading till then. Best of luck to you all, Teresa

O. K. , Teresa, but can I really trust you about those prizes? I'm going for the gold!

You amaze me! You've lost so much weight and you're around fabulous foods every day. Either you cook, or your bed-n-Breakfast, or your hubby & house gueast. I can't imagine being around all of that and behaving myself. You are one strong woman! Congratulations!

Oh, P. S. You're supposed to do a good deed each day. But I don't think you'll have any problem. You'll just have to narrow down your to-do list. Best of luck on Chemistry!

HELP ME. I think what my husband did with the Harley and F-ing our finances up is eating me alive, cuz last night was bad. I'm reading your portions and need help.

I did fantastic till I came home. Ate Pringles & dip. Then made one of those Caesar salad in a bags but added pounds of shredded cheese. Then ate a huge ice cream bar and a wad of Doritos, like my band didn't exist. Then I started eating chicken and finally got the golf ball and finally stopped. I'm pretty scared right now because regardless of what my band is doing, my head hasn't changed.

I woke up wishing I could call in sick today for some "me" time, but I wouldn't dare. But I just read my horoscope, and that's exactly what it said to do, so I just told the boss I have a splitting headache and I'm not going to work. I could gag at the way I ate last night - not because it's only one night, but because it's a step away from my old behavior, plus I put 2.5 pounds back on a week ago and it's creeping up 1/2 pound at a time.

Maybe I'll find an OA or AA meeting. I'll drive all my fat clothes somewhere, either the resale shop or Safe Nest. I've been saving (hiding) a piggy bank stuffed with several pounds of silver, which was supposed to be my mad money to save for a vacation, but I'd feel better cashing it in to cover bills (thanks, Chris.)

I wish we could all be together today cause I could really use a big, fat laugh!

Oh, I'll probably be calling you all today because I'm striving for an all liquid day. I hope I can do it... if I can stick to liquids one day, I think I can get back on track.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
