Went To Doc Today Bmi Is Borderline :/

Guess I shouldn't be complaining but.. I go to doc and my BMI is borderline to low. While doc will do bypass he says the girl who handles insurance blew the wind outta my sail.. My BMI was 39.5 I hve no comorbidities ... She need records showing my past 3 year weights ( can't remember back that far what my BMI would have been... I know I was over weight tho! Keeping my fingers crossed it was an exceptae BMI ... Uggh all my life my weight has been an issue !! Now it maynot be?? Seriously:( I know I should like a whinny baby I'm just so worried I won't get approved any one else been thru this? Btw my screen had disappeared. So I cannot see what I'm typing! Sorry if there r miss spellings or sentences that are strange!!

Well...I have high cholesterol pcos mitral valve prolapse but no sleep apnea which is always a slam dunk lol

I am scheduled for February 25th for lap-band removal (it slipped right away) and RNY. I have Medicare as primary with a BC/BS back-up. My BMI is 38 and I have CAD, sleep apnea, HTN, fibomyalgia and a laundry list of other issues. However, with Medicare, the magic number is 35. They weight you at the time of surgery and if your BMI has fallen below 35, they will cancel and not proceed. I cannot lose any weight prior to surgery.

So excited I'm approved...on the other hand I gained some weight for nothing lol

Yikes!! Lol I meant keep us posted lol mommy

Joy did you submit yet any news was thnking about you. Hope everything is good

Mommy not yet:/ I go to the new surgeon next week so we will see what he says...I'm thinking it will b may b4 ill submit because my 6 month diet won't be up until then:/ ..how r u and what's going on?

I go in on Wednesday. I start my liquid diet tommorow. I just had my ivf filter put in yesterday to prevent blood clots. Omg it sucked lol. But I'm ok

My doc had a cancellation and my surgery is now 1/4/13 instead of 2/25! I am happy he does not do the liquid does not to the liquid doet first as I cannot lose any weight before surgery.

Good luck to you all!

What I was told was when you are ready to go into surgery, you are weighed and if you do not meet your insuance criteria, you go home.

As Medicare is my primary, the magic BMI is 35. If I get to my surgical date and my weight has fallen below 35, they will not proceed. My BMI is 38.5 so I cannot lose any weight prior to surgery. With the upcoming holidays, I shall down eggnog!! And mashed potatoes with lots of gravy!!

Even though my doctor does not use a pre-op liquid diet, there is one day and two days of Dulcolax to make sure you are cleaned out as they are dealing with "innards" here, that alone takes Water weight with it, so I have to be careful. I would hate to drive 3 hours to find out I am rejected at the last moment over a pound or two.

Every doctor is different in prep but insurance companoeis have differing qualifications and I have many qualifying conditions but with Medicare, no matter what, a BMI has to be 35 or above.

Wow gotcha! Well ya might wanna eat during holidays;-) that would b awful to get cancelled over a few pounds!

Anybody now what kind of insurance is needed to get approval. And the price of surgery if paid out of pocket?
