My schedule gets crazy sometimes and I don't get a chance to eat.. I know it's bad but I make sure to at least get Water in! Anywho if I don't eat I get really bad pain on my sides! It seriously hurts and makes me want to just lay down with a heat wrap. The minute I eat it goes away and I'm fine! I think this is so weird and just wanted to see if anyone else has the same issue! I'm going to my 3 month check up in 2 weeks so I'm going to ask them why that happens because I don't ever feel hungry I just get sever pain when my body needs something.. It kind of sucks! Even when I go to have a bm I don't get a normal sign I just get intense cramping in my lower stomach and I now know that means I need to go... It's so strange!

OMG I am soooooo glad I found you. I have been having this problem too and I didn't know if it was normal or not. What did you doctor say? I have been freaking out thinking something is wrong cause I shouldn't be feeling this so called hunger pain. It is such a horrible feeling and I can't stand it. I am like searching everywhere for anything to eat to make it go away. Today I got that severe pain in my lower stomach and I had to go to the bathroom. I felt like total crap was sweaty and thought I was going to throw up. I felt a lot better like 20 or 30 min later but it was horrible. What is going on? OMG I am so glad I saw your post. :)

Maybe, LOL... It sounds like we are having this as well as bathroom issues so maybe it is from that but why would eating make it feel better that's what doesn't makes sense to me. That is what makes me think it is because we are hungry.

What test did you get done? Should I get some test done just to be sure? OMG I am so glad to hear they go away. How long did it take to go away 1 month out of surgery or longer? Do you eat regularily? I find if I do that I don't get them as much but it's hard to remember sometimes. :)

Did you do anything different that might have made them go away at that time like eating more often or anything? Do you think it was just a hunger pain?

I have had this same problem and I am six months out. It had gotten so bad twice I had to be taken to the hospital. They said my pouch was clamping shut and put me on Bentyl. It help keep the pouch and intestines in a good contracting motion. When I stay on it I do well, when I miss a few weeks (due to lack of money for my meds) I will start having spasms again.

Good posts here--mine is not a pain so much as a really empty feeling. It makes me think its gonna growl but never does? My NUT says its just my pouch is empty? Anyone else?

Yeah that is what I was thinking too but my nurse put me on som acid reducers and it has seem to take the pain away so I am thinking it had to do with acid and when I ate it helped so it made the pain go away. I am suppose to be on theses meds for the first 3 months but for some reason I was never given them which surprised my nurse as well. I have only been taking them for like a week now but so far so good. :)

My doc gives us Protonix for six months for acid.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
